Medical / Criminal Check Required?

Hey guys,

Another one -- we are working on getting my wife a spousal visa (we currently live in the UK, as she's a British citizen and we got married here 3 years ago), and was wondering if a medical assessment and the police criminal check is required? She hasn't even had a speeding ticket and is healthy as a horse (wait, is that a compliment...?), so there are no issues with either, but I'm finding conflicting info on whether you provide this or wait to be asked, as it may not be required.

Thanks!!!

If you are sponsoring your wife, she needs both a medical and criminal background check. Both are required.

As Keesio said, both are absolutely required and it's much better to get them done upfront so you can send the results with your application. Otherwise they will ask for it later and it will slow down your application while they wait for this information.

Yes she will need meds and criminal background done etc. Here's the document checklist and I assume you would want to apply Outland?

Magic, thanks so much for your answers -- really helps to have sources of information like yourselves.

Yes, we're applying outland from here in Edinburgh. That checklist is very helpful -- the one I had didn't have the extra supporting docs.

Another quick one if you guys don't mind (I posted but have no answers yet) -- is there a time limit after receiving approval to enter Canada? We want to leave time for processing, any errors, etc. but our planned arrival date is Nov 30th. Ideally would like to get the visa out of the way, but just wasn't sure if it's too early right now.

Huge thank you again

If you're planning on arriving in November, your wife will almost certainly have to enter as a visitor while waiting for her PR to be processed. I think London has been around 8-12 months lately.
