Mechanical engineering job options

Hi,
I'm doing my PhD of mechanical engineering in Canada. I was wondering what class of jobs would be best for me after I graduate?
Making good money is one of my options and I've had experience of in field jobs before I come to Canada. Working hard is not an issue for me but I want to find out a field where I can see promising promotions.

Your best option would be USA because Canada is not too ambitious when it comes to promotion. It only has a handful of MLC and most of them are either bankrupt or are in the process of running out of business anyway cause there is only so much fat you can trim as per costs. Canadian companies like to stay status quo, if it aint broken why fix it attitude? Or why be profitable if its easier to stay green by saving costs. Most people are laid back and promotions are very hard to come by. I mean you really need to slog like a dog before they make you a supervisor. USA is not that hard cause they have the money, power, and people to make it work. CEOs are leaders and visionaries not a one track cost cutting mindset/ machine. They actually think about profits and how to make their business competitive and sustainable in a global environment. Just look at the fortune 500 magazine.

So if you have the kind of hunger to make it to the top, Canada is not for you. You need to think south of the border. Goodluck

could anyone please advice, having 3 years of working experience in both Mechanical/Manufacturing engineering, then which Canadian city/province should be targeted for a decent job ?

Thank you newtone. I'm in New Brunswick right now and everything matches your descriptions. I had the idea that alberta should be different but based on you said my best bet would be south of border.

Not a chance.... Alberta is very slow paced. The only people that I see get promotions and fat checks are sales people.... and as long as you are into Oil and Gas.... everything else is as Newton described.

And somehow I like it here... it is slow paced but you can just work and relax, no one working 24/7 to get the big fat promotion in canibal competition (as I have seen in the USA).

I second with Jalex23 on OIL & GAS, heard prospects are good but it must be really hard for a new comer to crack a job in oil and gas without local experience/reference.
