McGill | Alberta | Waterloo Universities Issues

Hi All

I am a final-year student, doing UG in Civil Engineering from NUST-Pakistan. I have applied in M.Sc. Structural Engineering program at McGill and Alberta for Fall 2014; will soon apply for Waterloo.
I have:

CGPA= 3.59/4.00
Experience= 16 Weeks
TOEFL IBT= 90/120 (Not required for McGill)

Can any one please tell my chances of getting into McGill, Alberta and Waterloo ? Moreover, is there any competition on the basis on TOEFL ?

You have good acads.

Apply asap. TOEFL won't even be an issue. If you have given TOEFL, that will count for your visa interview.

You can easily get into these Universities.

Alberta is dead on. Not sure about Waterloo and Mcgill

Waleed! The professors usually take long to reply and that too in case your research interest attracts them. You can consider trying for a course-based Master's or keep trying to reach the professors through phone.

When you mail your professors make sure your research interests are mentioned in brief and to the point. Their hectic schedule won't permit them to go through the entire mail.
To quote h_s_k they normally take some time to reply.

Can someone please tell the process of McGill application. I have submitted my application along with required documents (check-list) on uapply. So, now whats the next thing to do ?

I just contacted them on the communication tool given in uapply, and they said that there is nothing to be done at your part now. I have heard a site named 'Minerva'. Can you please tell me about the next procedure if you are aware of ?

I have a miunderstanding may be. As to my understanding you have submitted scanned copies of your documents alongwith application. If so, send them hard copies of your documents as well. In case u decide not to send them hard copies now, they may give u a conditional offer letter if you are accepted. So, the best would be to ask the admission representative if they give conditional admission. If yes you can send hard copies of the documents after getting conditional admission letter.

I think you will only be required to open a Minerva account once you get an offer for admission. I'm applying for McGill M. Eng. too. Fall 2014.

That's Great...!! Have you got any reply yet ? I am still getting status of "Decision Pending" in nimbus account. Its been almost 2 months.

My status is "In Review". I think they're giving out decisions by March/April. I am talking to a potential supervisor though via email. They will start reviewing applications later this month according to him.

Ok. Can you please tell that how / in what way have you contacted supervisor ? I also sent emails to 5 or 6 professors but didn't received any sort of reply. I just thought that they might be too busy to see theirs mails. How you got them talking ?

I just went into the department's website and tapped on the link to my preferred Area of Research (Integrated Circuits and Systems - http://www.mcgill.ca/ece/research/integratedcircuits) and the list of professors with their emails are there. I messaged the two preferred supervisors that I declared in my application form and one responded. I just mentioned basic details about my self - where I'm from, my undergrad GPA, my current job, and how I would want to conduct research under their supervision. I also read their works (some published papers and books) and mentioned how my intended research is going to be along the same line.
