MBA: student seeking answers

Hi guys, I hope you all doing well.

I am facing some dilemma and really needed your opinions.

So I plan on doing an MBA and I shortlisted Laurier, McMaster, Ryerson, (all within ontario / toronto for convenience to the job market & cost wise)

However, I have been asking myself these questions as well as uni reps but I don't get any value added feedback but just reference to links I have seen already. Please let me pick your brain on these burning qns.

(A) laurier is reputable and has co-op For people with less than 2yrs of experience. - this is good however I have 5yrs of experience . Can I benefit from this such that im able to get some funds to pay my tuition in between breaks.

(B) Most forums speak one thing. Networking is key. Does this mean that I can go to a low rated school n sharpen my networking skills. Will the mba from laurier/sfu/sauder brighten my employment score?

(C) how good is laurier/mcmaster/Ryerson - (for those who actually went through these schools).
I looked through the topics and for me, it feels more like a repetition of acca (perhaps with more spotlight to the market scenario). However despite being a member of ACCA. I wana do an mba so that I can explore my career in a most developed economy

(D) will I be eligble to work (even as an intern or something) in a paying firm in between my school terms (breaks). This is because my level of experience, it would kill my advancement in career if I sit down for 1 yr (I.e I will take longer to move to the next position because I took off a year and im behind track)

Yeah. Basically. I know its long. But hey, sip that cup of coffee, shake your head thinking what a noob and then you can let me know what you thibk.
If you can get someone with actual mba experience through these schools to post, that would be awesome.

I would pick either Mac or Laurier from a reputation perspective and stay away from Ryerson.

It's really impossible for any of us to guess what sort of work you'll be able to find during school breaks. It's possible you'll be able to sure something aligned to your career - also entirely possible you won't.

Your response is much appreciated.

What's your take on applying for the FSW category instead and get a PR? This could immensely reduce the tuition fees as I won't be regarded as an international student (I think) plus I could utilise my wirk experience to gain entry.

I tried that free assessment tool (show at the top of this website) -I don't know if anyone has tried and got positive results. They could share it with me, but from the assessment, i got a reply saying that I may be eligible but required further details.

Few things I want to highlight:

1) Canada values Canadian education and Canadian experience the most. An international student has none initially.
2) For the above reason, it's pretty hard to find a paid job related to your field as a student/graduate.
3) So, an international student should choose a program which offers CO-OP opportunity.

By co-op do you mean Paid internship as part of MBA program, right ?

How would you rate Global management programs of Humber college compared to MBA programs by University of Calgary/Alberta ? i ask this due to location of Humber in Toronto.

Apples and oranges. One is an MBA and one is a simple diploma. MBA is rated far far higher.

Yes you are right. However, i am trying to maximize the places i apply to that fall within Ontario, especially near Toronto. So that i can be close to industries and other business presence. and Humber does not offer a MBA.

Humber i was considering to add as a safety school. I am already applying to Univ of Toronto and York university for MBA.
Would i be better off pursuing a diploma from Humber instead of University of Calgary/Alberta ? i am asking this as i would prefer to work there after finishing studies.

University of Alberta's MBA is top 5 in Canada.

Diploma is just 10% in value when compared to an MBA from a top University.

You are better off in Alberta than in Toronto. Currently, Alberta is in bad shape due to oil prices, however, it is temporary. It will do well once the oil prices recover.

If I were you, I will go with McMaster. It's a good school.

If you want to work in low skilled job, then go for Humber.

If you want to get into a high skilled job, then go for a MBA from a reputable university.

Ok thank you, I am hoping to work in a good skilled job, preferably in Healthcare sector. Can you answer few more queries ?

1. How much will location of business school affect career prospects ? For e.g would it hurt to study from British Columbia from a university like SFU or Univ of Victoria ?
2. How difficult is to get into these 3 universities MBA program- Wilfrid Laurier-Lazaridis, York-Schulich school and McMaster ?
