Max Duration between COPR and Landing

Hi guys,

After you receive the PPR and you receive your passports back with COPR, how long do you have from that point to actually go to a port of entry to 'land' or book the interview?

My wife and I are currently in IP2 stage of CEC stream (MEP 19th Nov). The reason I ask is because I want to make a home trip to the UK in April (easter weekend) and want to book flights asap. Our current PR estimated completion date (based on the 6 month timeline) is April 19th and obviously if we 'land' before that time there'll be the up to 8 week period where we can't leave while waiting for our PR cards.

So correct me if I am wrong; If we get PPR later than anticipated and our trip back to the UK would fall within the 'up to 8 weeks' period, I could just delay 'landing' until we actually return from the UK and just 'land' upon entry back into Canada from that trip correct?

Thanks!

Generally, your COPR is valid for one year from the date of your medical, or the expiration of your passport, whichever is closer.
Yes you can land when return from the UK

Alternatively, if you are British nationals. You can land before your trip. When you return from the UK, fly to the US and com back in on land. No PR card required if you drive a private vehicle across the border.
Just another option for you.

Thank you :)

Yep, we have British passports. So after we land, and are waiting for our PR cards in the mail, if we don't have them to allow us to fly back into Canada, we can drive across the border by car? What documentation would they ask for at the land border in the absence of a PR card?

http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/travel-voyage/td-dv-eng.html

^ I read this page but all we would have is our British passports and and I guess photocopies of our PR documentation (COPR etc) to show we are landed - so this would suffice? The information on that webpage does say travellers can be verified through questioning and providing certain docs, but says nothing explicitly about being able to use your CORP etc.

Ok great! Don't suppose you know why I could provide passport and COPR at a land border but not at an airport via a flight?

Because COPR is not meant for travel via public transport. Airlines won't let you board unless they see a PR card or PRTD. That's the rule they need to follow. Same if you are travelling by train or bus, they need to see your PR card too.

Well, hypothetically, if you can somehow trick your airline to let you get on the plane, you can come back with just your passport. Since you are British national, you would normally need eTA to fly so it probably wouldn't work. I'm from a country where we need TRV to fly as a temporary resident. There have been instances where a PR tricks the airline with a TRV that still appears to be valid in the passport to get on the plane and fly back.

It's a different story when you drive to the border yourself and physically stand there, CBSA can easily verify who you are and your status even if you don't have a card.

I received my CoPR 2 weeks back and it was only valid till second week of Feb. I had my medicals done in Feb 2018 and they are only valid for 1 year so I am guessing its related to when your medicals expire.

Yeah, I had my medical done in September 2018 so I'm not in any danger of hitting the 12 month mark with that anytime soon anyway :)

No, the previous app will not affect a new app.
