Hi there,

My consultant tells me I wont be able to submit my EE profile as a masters degree as according to the profile site, he can only select Masters for certain degrees, like doctors and a few other professions I cant recall.

Instead, he says we will have to submit as bachelors + 'other degree' which apparently will still get me a lot of points, but slightly less than the Masters would...

Is this really true? I find that strange, as my WES report states my UK degree has a Canadian equivalency of Bachelors AND Masters.

I'm keeping it brief, but if you need more info, please ask/post.

As per CIC ,"Master's degree, or professional degree needed to practice in a licensed profession" get u same scores.

However, ifu seethe wording "needed to practice in a licensed profession" is linked to professional degrees like CA, CPA ect and not "Master's degree"

So ur equivalency should be master's only

Your consultant is wrong. If your ECA states Masters, you get the second highest points on the Education section corresponding to Masters irrespective of your chosen discipline/field of study.

Do the consultant a favor - help them get enrolled in classes on English comprehension and Internet usage, the former being more urgent.

Do yourself a favor - fire the consultant after you take the above action.

All the best!

Hi both, thanks for your replies. After further looking into it, he agrees the full points should be achievable with my masters.

Asivad, I appreciate where you are coming from, and I kinda knew I'd get the fire your consultant answer, BUT due to work commitments and various things, I need a consultant to stay on top of the application and do the legwork for me. This application can't go wrong. It's too important. Also, with the deposit paid, its not worth cancelling now.

The consultant is a good one, but he is just extra cautious, which can sometimes be good.

Thanks for your advice

I find it very strange that you say your consultant is "Good". He Can't interpret a WES result successfully?

I had paid a deposit to my consultant as well, before i fired him. I think you also doubt his/her competence is why you came to the forum in the first place.

If it's important enough, and you can make time to check out this forum, you can definately handle it yourself. I've read about people who have taken a week off work to prepare a response to ITA.

One last word - my consultant almost had me commit to something that would have turned out to be misrepresentation.

Be sure of what you're doing.

Good luck

I totally second this. When I read the original post, my eyes rolled in my head. Fire the guy! If WES says you have a Master's degree, that is what you have. The OTHER category, with the same number of points, is for professional degrees that are more than a bachelor's degree but not the academic equivalent of a Ph.D. and that are required to enter certain professions - J.D. for lawyers, M.D. for doctors - that kind of thing. It has nothing to do with a Master's degree, which can be obtained in almost any subject.

I totally understand your not wanting anything to go wrong. Moving to another country can be a huge, life-changing decision. And that's why you need to fire this consultant. He/she has shown incompetence and you really need not put your life in his/her hands. Good luck.

I understand your points, but then also understand that you need to know sometimes there is a reason to get a consultant. I went into this knowing I could do it myself, but yet I still did it. Well there's obviously a reason right? Several in fact. So as long as I keep an eye on stuff he submits, then we should be OK. I know it's so easy to throw in the 'dump consultant' route, but that's just it, is the easy answer that applies to most, but not all. It will take understanding my situation to make you see why. But that's too long winded. I got a good discount, and who knows, if he misses up again, or even as it stands, I'll demand a further discount. Or... Yes if it gets worse, I'll get rid of him. But, so far, we was just being overcautious. Thing is, no one on this forum would be able to commit for free, as much time and help as I would need. It's not just his knowledge I need, that's where this forum and you guys can really help, I need his time and dedication. The consultant is almost acting as a PA, as I don't have the time. Sure, since people will say PAs are overpriced and not needed, but some need that.

Oh P's, you right, if I have the time to check all this and write here on the forum, I should be fine. BUT, I'm only free right now. I'm in between projects. Soon I'll be on another project, under massive stressful pressure, sometimes also working several weekends and all evenings. So, this is a precaution for that, part of the reason again.

Anyway, long story short. Rather than just not reply to your comments, I want to say thank you, but for now, I have my reasons to continue with my consultant. But I will keep your points in mind.

I feel bad, it sounds like I'm being ignorant of your advice, but I'm not. I have weighed it all up, and I need to continue. For now.
