master to phd study permit

Hello everyone

I've just finished my masters program and my study permit is still valid till next may. Now I received phd acceptance and planning to start in January.
My question is: can I start my phd program with the master's study permit?

on my opinion u may start it but as soon as possible u must have to apply for extention of study permit
