Good day ladies and gents,

This is my first post on this forum, I would appreciate any help.

My girlfriend from Thailand is coming to visit me this October for a 6 week duration, she will be visiting on a visitors visa.

We've been planning marriage for a while now. Our original plan was for her to come visit here, and I would follow her back to Thailand sometime in January to marry and process everything to apply for her Permanent residency. We looked at process times, it looked like it would almost be a year before she could get her PR and finally move over to Canada with me.

To get the ball rolling a little faster I was planning on marrying her here when she comes and visits. Nothing big, just get down to the local town hall and process the Marriage license.

Will I beable to marry her here if she's on a tourist visa?? Will they look into her passport and see how shes in the country? I was hoping to send her back home with the papers so she can slowly start to process the application for the PR. This will also save me $$$ and time, so I won't have to visit in January. Just wait until she gets her PR and moves here.

Is it legal? We are not going to break the conditions of her visitors visa, she will not overstay and apply for her PR here. She needs to go back home for work, and I also need some time to buy a new condo and finish some work projects here.
Has anyone done this before? and can it be done without any headaches?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

Hello mtlmuaythai,

I'm Thai and I got married 2 years ago with tourist visa.

I live in Ontario. The officer only requested my passport to do all the marriage certificate. We had a small wedding party at home with family and close friends. We invited the officer to do the ceremony at home too. My husband and I signed the paper and received "A Record of Solemnization of Marriage" on that day. It's not the "Marriage Certificate". After that my husband had to send the application and waited for about 8 weeks for the marriage certificate. This one is what you need for your PR process.

If you live in another provinces, you should check with Clerks Department of the city where you live.

Good luck!

Yes as long as she as a valid status. In some cases maybe not. All in all, Yes!
