I was too nervous about being without my passport to do the name change during the process. If I had it to do over again, I would TOTALLY do the name change before landing. Now I have a passport in my married name, and a COPR and PR card in my maiden name. (It's an extra pain here, as Québec doesn't allow you to take your husband's name.) I do have both names on my driver's license, at least. But I still have to change my name on my PR card. (Vanity is causing me to wait...I'm losing weight, and want to reach my goal weight before I get the photo done.)

You are not the only one with vanity! lol... I actually wanted to change my passport photo because it has my picture when I was 270lbs heavier! Everything else I have my slimmer picture.

It is good to hear of others that would have changed it also. My husband wants me to wait because we have faith the process will go quickly. He said we can just change everything to my married name after I get here. Our main priority is getting me to Canada!

I appreciate everyone's input!

My wife applied under her maiden name since that was the name in her passport. Afterwards, she updated her passport with her married name. She e-mail CPP-Ottawa a scanned copy of her new passport. Also when they asked for PPR, she re-sent a scan of her new passport. COPR arrived with her new married name.

Basically as long as you get your passport updated with your married name before CIC asks for PPR, it is no problem.

I just called CIC about this, because I am also in the same boat and I'm not sure how soon it will be before I get my PPR since my application was sent in in February.
The woman I spoke to told me it won't be a problem at all to change my name for my PR card as long as it is a legal name change. The only thing is I will have to pay for a new PR card. If I knew for certain I have a few months left of waiting then I would totally change my name before the request comes in. And I wouldn't be able to request a new passport for another two weeks because I am actually doing some international travel this weekend.

I wish I would've realized this sooner too. *sigh* I thought the same thing as you (same name on all the documents=the right thing).

Anyway, keep us posted on what you end up doing!

Kneekick - my husband wants me to wait because we are in the Ottawa office and they have been moving quick. He said "we will just pay the $50 bucks and get you a new PR card." He has got a point, lol! We have already spend so much money on this immigration process, what is another $50?
