Married to a Bulgarian girl...and having a baby girl!

Hi everyone!

I guess the title already says a lot... ;D

I am reading a lot of data off this forum and it is quite informative, thanks to everyone doing their best to help out.
I will keep doing research myself like a big boy, but in the meantime, why not state my case here and see what kind of replies I get.
This forum exists because the complexity of the topic is quite baffling at times...And the official website could be designed a lot better IMO.

Anyhow, here's my story:

I met this stunning (Of course) Bulgarian woman while working in Morocco in Jan, 2013. I'm Canadian from birth.
We quickly realized our destinies had to be united, so we married in Bulgaria in July the same year.
Our first daughter was born in January 2014.
We were already pretty much done with most of the process of filling forms and getting documents when we realized
that Immigration Canada requires an X ray of the spouse (Wife) along other documents...
Her being pregnant kind of made this procedure risky. So we waited for her to give birth first.
She finally did her X ray examination..But now things have changed: We have a child.

I think I pretty much know what we have to do to accomplish our project of being reunited as a family in Canada.
But just to make sure, I would appreciate tips and cautions from the knowledgeable people haunting this forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong or if I miss something.
Here are the steps I have to do (Maybe not in the correct order).
I have to:

1- Authenticate my Bulgarian marriage so it has legal worth in Canada. (Not sure how to go about this one yet)
2- Apply to make my daughter an official canadian citizen. (Downloaded the form)
2a- I saw that there is an option to obtain a temporary validity passport for the child (Since she's under 2 years of age)
3- Apply with all the correct documentation (Mine and hers, and there is a truckload) to be a sponsor in Mississauga.
4- Then, if my sponsorship is accepted, paperwork and headaches will be tranferred to Romania (Closest Canadian Embassy to Bulgaria) to be processed there.

Am I missing something? ::)

From experience, if there are no glitches, how much time should we expect it to take (approx) for the whole process to take course?

Thanks for paying attention.

Congrats on being a Dad! You may need to repost your questions with a different title (if you do not get any replies in 2-3 days) or just wait a bit longer for some of the more senior members to weigh in on this. Have you checked to see if there is a specific thread for the visa office you will be using? Or sometimes there is a thread for people applying at different VOs but at certain times - like "all 2014 outland applicants".

I am not knowledgeable enough to give you an informed answer to your specific questions but someone here will be so sit tight. Blessings.

Hi

You seem to have a handle on the process.

To clarify, when you say "Canadian from birth", were you born in Canada or born abroad to Canadian parents?

You do not need to "authenticate" your Bulgarian marriage. Canada recognizes foreign marriages as long as they are legal under the laws where they were performed and comply with Canadian marriage law (i.e. no polygamy, no 13 year old bride etc.)

The whole process will probably take around 10 months to a year.

Then your daughter will definitely be Canadian.

Canadian citizens that are either born in Canada or were naturalized can pass on their citizenship to children born abroad.

Those who are born outside of Canada to Canadian parent(s) cannot pass on their citizenship to their own children born abroad. Your daughter will be such a person, if the law stays the same. For your grandchildren to be Canadian, they would need to be born in Canada or have a Canadian father who can pass on his citizenship to children born abroad.

Why is this necessary? We went through the Bucharest VO, although with a Romanian marriage certificate, and nobody ever asked us to do something like that.

I believe OP was unsure of what was required and thought it was necessary but now knows it isn't.
