hello all,

I have recently been granted permanent residency in canada, I still need to activate it. We want to get married early 2010. We've been together for almost three years but we have lived together a total of six months in that three years. Initially we wanted to get married after me getting the pr but we were advised not to unless i activate the pr first or I could lose it. I got this advise from another forum. Is this true? If so, what suggestions do you guys have? Is it possible for me to add him to my application before activating the pr or will this pose a problem?

Thanks

I don't know if he can be added to your application and how. If you do get married before you get your PR, you must inform them.

Did you inform them about your living together for 6 months? It is important to inform them when you start living together and your application was in process.

Thank you.

Hello

First, excuse me....., I couldn't figure out what you meant by ", I still need to activate it". Do you mean "you have got the PR visa but you have NOT landed yet". If you have not landed yet then you have to declare the relationship in the landing process otherwise the person (partner) will be excluded as member of your family and you will be in trouble when you try to sponsor him (her) later after being in Canada. Alternatively, if you land as a single person then you can sponsor the partner as a spouse provided the marriage certificate is dated after the date of your landing.

If you have already landed then your position depends on what you declared on landing.

Hi,

hi, i am from the Philippines. I've been separated from my husband 17yrs from now. My ex-husband got married in Canada but he did not filed a divorce from our marriage, i just found out when i request a copy of divorced at the civil registry of canada and received a letter from them that there's no Divorce filed.

My boyfriend who is a canadian citizen wants me to come with him in canada to make a new life with him but i dont have the capacity to file a visa (lack of requirements), is it possible for us to get marry in HongKong even if i am not annuled in the Phils?
Thank you.

best regards,

Your ex could very well be legally divorced.

As you are still legally married in the Philippines, a marriage to someone else would not be legally recognized.

best regards,
Have you live with your boyfriend for 12 months (continously) in the Philippines? If so, you can apply via common law.
