Hello guys,

Some might of read my previous posts and we got some of it figured out. I managed to get a hold of them and my p.r. process is going smoothly but i failed to get notified cause my fiancee's email was wrong. It is what it is on that aspect. My new one is marriage. We plan on getting married this time in July. I have the return ticket to prove that I will be returning to the U.S.A. so I wont be staying after the marriage.

Some questions I have is it a good idea to tell customs that I am getting married?

What paper work should I bring for the marriage?

Do I have to give up my U.S.A citizenship? Can I have dual Citizenship after a few years???

What is the pluses and drawbacks of getting married to a Canadian Male in Ontario?

if you have invitation printed, show the office your wedding invitation.
I don't know about Ontario, but your spouse needs to apply for marriage license and get the license BEFORE wedding in the province you're getting married.
you can be dual citizen, but you still have to file US taxes even if you have canadian citizenship and stay in Canada.
There is no drawback per say of getting married to Canadian--love is what's important.
Only drawback I can think of is more $ for filing US taxes, and immigration process takes tooooo long.

The more $ for filing taxes is only for getting someone to file for you.

You shouldn't have to pay much more as there are a number of credits you can take advantage of.

Number of credits? I normally pay a HR block guy to do my taxes because all the numbers dont really make any sense to me. I suck at that kind of thing! XD. I love him to death so there is nothing going on there. We were planning on doing just a court wedding so we will only have me, him and his mother.

Hopefully the taxes wont be to bad. XD~

As far as taxes go, it's not a huge deal. You'll need someone versed in cross border taxes, but multiple accountants can handle that for you. I would suggest after you immigrate to Canada that you avoid using HR Block though because they are NOT well versed in cross border taxes and might get you into a pot of hot water you don't need to be in.

I don't have to pay any extra taxes to the US since all my 'credits' are given to me for paying taxes in Canada. There are a few extra forms that need to be filed, but that also is NOT a big deal. A hassle, yeah, for sure, but worth it to be with your spouse! :D

Best of luck to you

Yes, roughly, it breaks down to: you get a US tax credit for foreign earned income in a country where you are a resident, as well as a US tax credit for any country that has a tax treaty with the US and where you paid taxes to that country.

Ahhh I see. Well I will be sure to avoid H.R block for all that and try to figure out all the tax stuff when the time comes.
