Hi All,

I have a question regarding the process to apply for permanent residence for my spouse.

I have the document checklist, regarding the supporting documents such as photo's and such, can that be submitted online or will it have to be mailed or submitted live in the office?

How long does the process take?

Thanks in advance!

You send every thing in by mail . The sponsor information and the applicants information. As for how long it takes you would have to tell us which country your spouse is coming from.

You better first refer to website of CIC, you will get the answer to all your questions.

We are filing within Canada, she came on a visitors visa and we got married, will this cause an issue? Is it best to apply in country or out? I checked on CIC and things are a bit cryptic in their explanations.

Thanks again

Within Canada (inland): 2+ years.
Outland is generally much faster. What country is she from?

Israel, any reason why outland is much faster?

What do you mean by inland: 2+ years? Is that how long the application process will take?

Yes, inland will take 2+ years. They are currently working on applications received in November 2013.

Tel Aviv is a fast office. I would definitely recommend applying outland.

No my husband and I got married here, no problem at all. Your wife can stay in Canada on a visitors visa and still apply outland. She just has to extend it.

While I agree that outland is preferred in this (and probably all) situations, inland is not actually 2+ years. Having just completed my spouses inland, it was 1 year and 5 months, and many in February 2014 are now receiving AIP/DM. While CIC officially say November, if you look on the inland spreadsheet, this is not the case, and DM almost always comes within 1 month and often on the same day as AIP/SA.

Inland is still a poor choice compared to Tel Aviv. A September applicant got their COPR in January or even December if I'm not mistaken.

I never said inland was a good choice, but there's also no need to lie about the times for either path.

I guess outland applications are faster. I am also an outland applicant. Submitted the application package on October 30, 2014 and just yesterday, May 6, 2015 we got our decision made. It always depends how strong your application is. It means, you should submit all the relevant documents required by CIC.

Outland will be much faster. Unless her priority is an open work permit, which is only offered for inland applications. Still, you could be done with Outland and have PR by the time you got a work permit for Inland. inland takes a very long time and you can't travel freely, you also sacrifice your right to appeal if you apply inland.

Go check out the Tel Aviv thread, they should have a spreadsheet for timelines and will be able to give you good information on how long PR is taking that Visa office.
