My husband and I are getting married next week. We plan on sending in our application ASAP so he can be here with me and our son. When sending in the marriage license with the application, do we need the actual certificate, or would a photocopy of the signed license suffice. I've heard that marriage certificates in ontario take like 12 weeks after the actual license is signed

The application asks for the actual marriage certificate.
Apply for the certificate immediately. Some people have gotten lucky and gotten it within a few weeks.

You need the certificate . Order the short form and the long form . I sent the long form and it was fine, but some forums members have been asked to summit the short form .

I had to send both - there was a delay because I sent the long form version - short version clearly says marriage certificate. My suggestion - send short form

They screwed up on yours. They saw the top right hand side that says marriage licence and didn't look any further . It was from your post that i suggested the short form lol

Yeah I had major problems sending in the long form. First they told me I hadn't sent them a Marriage Certificate. They didn't specify anything and thought it was because I sent an original. So I sent them a photocopy and they said I've sent them a marriage license!
I replied asking to be specific because I've sent them a long form and if it's the short form "File size" that they want? No Reply.
So I went into Toronto to ask for an emergency File Size and sent it to them. Wasted about 2-3 months because they stuffed up.

I encourage you to wait and get the marriage certificate and send it with the application.
I also couldn't wait until we get the marriage certificate, so I sent the application with only marriage license.
Few weeks ago, I got the sponsor approval, but my wife was asked to send the marriage certificate.
2 weeks after sending the marriage certificate, still no answer.
I called the CIC and the agent told me that it will probably take another 6 weeks before they review our file.

The marriage certificate becomes available to order online 6 - 8 weeks after marriage. Send the original.
