Hello everyone,

- My boyfriend and I would like to get married abroad.
i have canadian and iranian citizenship. living in canada
- my boyfriend has iranian citizeship living in iran
- my father is not giving his blessing to this marriage. for this reason we are trying our best to get married in thailand or turkey.

we called the iranian embassy in thailand. we told them we want Certificate of No Impediment/Certificate of Capacity to Marry/Certificate of Celibacy/Affidavit of Eligibility to Marry as this is required by not only thailand but by most foreign countries where foreigners would like to marry in.

they started asking questions about me.
they said i am considered as an iranian citizen. and since its my first time getting married, they will need a letter from my father giving his blessing to this marriage. otherwise they will not give the certificate of eligibility to marry to my boyfriend.

the embassy of iran in turkey said the same thing. is there any truth to this? can they ask for my name? can he just say i'm a canadian citizen?

i will be getting my certificate of eligibility to marry using my canadian passport.

thanks

On a side note:
- turkey, armenia and thailand are countries that easily give visas to iranian nationals. i feel like our hands are tied.
- we also cannot live together in iran since the islamic law forbids it
- we will be applying for a temporary resident visa soon
- we'll still be meeting outside of iran to document the relationship
- if the iranian embassy is insisting on that letter where my father needs to give his permission.. this means we cannot get married in most countries in the world including iran. we cannot even live together according to irans law.
- if we apply for a temporary resident visa for him in canada and usa and this gets refused. do you guys think it will stand a chance of.qualifying for conjugal

has anyone done this process in turkey or thailand please help

thanks

Why didn't you get it from Canada embassy, since you are a Canadian?
And I don't think you are qualified as conjugal. You have no immigration barrier to get married or being common law. You father didn't bless your marriage isn't a valid ground for you to be qualifie as conjugal.

i don't mind getting my certificate from the Canadian embassy

my boyfriend's certificate will depend on my father's letter giving his blessing. this is according the iranian embassies in turkey and thailand

Then unfortunately, it is truly not a valid ground for you to be qualified as conjugal. Conjugal stream is a very narrow stream for those that legally cannot get married or being common law. You can legally married, it is just your father didn't approve it.

If the marriage is important to you, then why don't you to consider to renounce your Iranian citizenship? Then you won't have any problems to get married.

And it is true that Iran government technically doesn't recognize multiple citizenship
Iran does not technically recognize dual citizenship. However, it is possible for someone to hold Iranian citizenship and another second citizenship. For Iranian dualcitizens, Iran simply recognizes the individual as an Iranian citizen.

It seemed that only option for you is to renounce your Iranian citizenship, if your father won't back down to bless your marriage choice.

Urgent help is needed in regards to The certificate of celibacy. ( statutory declaration/unmarried certificate for marriage abroad)
I have notarized my document ( statutory declaration for marriage abroad) here and sent it to global affairs Canada as directed by the Canada consulate in Istanbul but it's been 3 weeks and hasn't received any response.
I am leaving on 31st Jan to Istanbul and got another certificate notarized.
Will I be able to notarize it from the consulate in Istanbul because they are saying they are closed for in-person meetings and do they provide that service? I will really appreciate the help.
