I recently got married to a Canadian citizen all though we both are in Canada but my immigration is still in process -- and we got married in Ontario- how does this effect my immigration status and will my process as an immigrant still be on and what I need to do now (and ya my marriage registration and cermony is as well done) -thanks . ----------I don't have PR application in process but my study permit expired so I assume I don't have any status. Now I want to know do I need to file an application of PR on behalf of spouse or just leave it like that and candian government will change themselves cuz I got legally married.

So you mean to say that you already have a PR application going and in the meantime, you got married? If that is the case, nothing will change with your PR application. It will continue to get processed. However, although you do not have to include your Canadian spouse in your application, you should still inform CIC that you got married so send them a copy of the marriage certificate and your spouses passport and a cover letter stating that you want to update your status from single to married (to a Canadian).

You will have to apply for PR. Being married to a Canadian does not give someone the right to residency in Canada.

Yes you will have to get PR status. You will have or might have to prove that the marriage is legitimate, i would get right on that if i were you as they can ask you to leave Canada for any reason they see fit if you do not do things the right way.

As others have said, simply getting married to a Canadian will not change your status in any way. Your Canadian spouse must apply to sponsor you for PR. You can read all about spousal sponsorship here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spousal-sponsorship-t46995.0.html
