My fiance and I are getting married in December but are applying now through common law (we've lived together for a year and 3 months.

Will that be a problem? Should we mention it in the application?

edit: Actually, I found the answer to the first question. It does raise another question though. Would it add time to our application?

We were engaged at the time we did our common-law app. So in our app we showed facebook updates announcing our engagement and showing pics of engagement ring, and mentioned in our relationship section that we would be getting married the following year. No specific dates though. It never hurt our application.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if setting the date would change that.

I have one more related question. My fiance's family is organizing a party/reception in Canada next august. Would mentioning that affect my app? Would I be assuming that I would be admitted into the country? :) I'm probably over thinking this.

the only way i see this "affecting" your application is by validating your relationship to CIC, especially since family members are hosting it. This to me shows proof of your relationship. It's not against the law to visit canada, so what does cic care if you are planning a trip down the road? I'm assuming you can freely enter as a visitor (with or without a visa), correct? I agree... overthinking it.
