Hi all,

Our application for sponsorship was received by CIC on May 7th. We met the requirements for common-law partnership, and applied as such at the time. Thus far, we have received SA, and as I am a US citizen, our application was forwarded to Ottawa. ECAS still has "application received" as my status, and judging by current processing times, In Process might not show up for a few more months to come.

We are also getting married on October 17th, and it is most likely that by that time the application probably won't have been looked at by an agent yet.

So, my question is-- what happens when we get married and a decision has yet to be made? (I know that we must notify CIC-- but do we do so immediately, or once the marriage certificate is sent to us by the province, which might be three weeks later? How do we actually send such a notification? What effect would this change likely have on the application?).

Thanks for any advice in advance! :)

I'm in a similar situation. American sponsored by Canadian spouse, but we just had a child. I called in, they told me I would just need to furnish the birth certificate once we had it, if our case was still open. They said I should get a certified copy and mail it to CPC-Ottawa. I assume a marriage (since it's just another change in family situation) would be the same process.

It won't really have any effect on the app. Email the VO and attach a copy of the marriage certificate.

An email with the birth certificate attached is perfectly acceptable. There's no need to send a physical copy, let alone a certified copy. The call centre staff are idiots.

hi everyone,

i'm a july 2014 applicant for conjugal sponsorship in canada. my application status is still "application received". my sponsor's previous marriage was annulled last april 2015 and we are able to get married last month, july 2015. since the immigration requires the applicant to inform the office for any changes in personal circumstances, i consider to declare mine.
my questions are;
will it be affect our present application?
is it necessary to apply another application like spousal sponsorship?
what are the requirements they might ask after telling it to them?

thanks in advance..
