Marriage certificate returned/requested

Hello,

I am sponsoring my spouse inland. Last week, our application was returned, with a letter indicating that our application was incomplete, and that we needed to send our marriage certificate. Directly behind this letter was the copy of our marriage certificate which we included with the initial application. We can't figure out what the problem is?? We were married in the USA and my husband is American. According to the checklist, they want a photocopy of our marriage certificate, which is what we sent. Could they want the original certified copy that we were issued from the town? We are having a very hard time getting in touch with CIC by phone to try and clarify this. Also, my husband's visitor visa runs out at the end of September so we are in a time crunch. Thanks for your help!

You can get an extension for your husband so you don't have to stress about his status. You have time, as long as you send the extension application in by the day on which his status expires.

It definitely does seem like a mistake since they only ask for a photocopy so I think you have no choice but to try and get in contact with someone over the phone.

We had a request for a new marriage certificate because apparently ours didn't have the county or the date on it. We have NO IDEA how we missed that!! In the letter that they sent us requesting additional documentation and it said that we couldn't send a marriage license, is there a chance that's what you sent?

So we were able to get in touch with CIC yesterday. What we had sent was a 'RECORD of Marriage'. They wanted a Marriage certificate. I feel so dumb. What we sent was what we received from the town after our marriage. We have used it as our marriage certificate for everything we have ever needed it for (my American PR/Citizenship application, proof of my name change, etc....) for 10 years now! Ugh. So we will get what they want and resend. We are mostly just anxious because we need my husband's OWP asap!

Your husband should apply to extend his visitor status.

Hi, my application was returned too. The situation is similar to yours. However, we did sent our marriage certificate, cause it says marriage certificate in surface. The language was xx and xx were married by xxx at xxx on xxx date. And signed by the probate court judge.
I am wondering your " marriage record" has similar content or not.
I also tried to contact IRCC and they could not find my application number in the system any more. The agent said the file was deleted due to return. Thus we could not speak to any officer and find out the real reason.
