My friend whose wedding has recently happened in Djabouti is now planning to start his applications of moving to canada to live with his wife. He has been terribly struggling to get the marriage certificate all these days. He is not actually Djaboutian. He is from Somalia but the wedding had to take place in Djabouti since he wife was not allowed to travel to Somalia with that small Canadian travel document. And as the search prolonged, the wife traveled back to Canada now. He is foreigner in the country, don't know many people to ask for help, and the country seems a bit complicated in nature. As he is now close to give on getting the certificate, he was thinking of fabricating the letter, as that seems the only option he got. If he does so, what problem will that bring to him? Do you think a falsified marriage certificate could be detected by the immigration guy? How can they find out that it's fabricated? What will happen after they find out?

don't send falsified or fabricated marriage certificate and risk refusal of your sponsorship

Marriage certificates
  • For spousal sponsorships, make sure you include a valid marriage certificate or proof of registration of your marriage with your application (see checklist details). The document(s) you submit must show that the marriage was legally registered with the government where it took place.

Do not send falsified documents. It will be misrepresentation and he will likely also get a five year ban from Canada on top of it. Get the real certificate.

Yes - you should assume the fake certificate will be detected. The application will be refused and he will then be banned from Canada for 5 years.
