we were married in 1987, what kind of marriage certificate will suffice - affidavit/ certificate from the preist who conducted the marriage. in Indian Context

You need to get a certificate from the marriage registrar..They have a specific format for the same which is then affixed with a seal from registrar..

Try going to the local office of the town where you got married..

cheers!

No, you will have to get the marriage certificate issued by Registrar of your town. Canadian Immigration doesn't recognise any certificate issued by Arya Samaj authoritie, only registrar can issue a legal marriage certificate.

hey, it doesn't have to be your town only in case of India...

I got married in Punjab. I am from Haryana and my wife from Punjab. We had not made out certificate for 3 years.

then, we needed the marriage certificate for some work permit when I was working in Hyderabad. The Ranga Reddy Marriage Registrar readily issued a marriage certificate. They don't care where you got married.

You should be able to furnish 5-7 marriage photographs, wedding invitation card and 3-4 people who would swear in front of the registrar that they attended your marriage and would swear that in any court of law, residence proof (local residence of the place where you currently reside and whose corresponding registrar you are filing the application with). Some states require an affidavit attached, others do not.

my application clearly stated the state in which I got married, but there was no eyebrow raised.

I'll suggest you to go through some registrar office agent. they charge a fee, but they also ensure that it sails throguh smoothly.

Aanbaan,

I also have to apply for Marriage Certificate. Should I go to Court and apply for the same.

Also what are the charges for issuing Marriage Cerificate.

I have photographs but Marriage Card I have to look for.

Please guide.

Hi Meena,

I presume that you are a Muslim. I'm not aware about the requirements of Muslim Marriage Act in India.

One of my muslim friends told me that the maulvi wh onducted the marriae must also be present at the registrar's office. But, i'm not sure. You need to check with some agent.

The agent in Hyderabad took 1500 from me out of which 600 was the official fee. 500 was given to registrar under the table to provide the certificate within 1 week.

Fine I would enquire it.

I got married in Aligarh and now I am in Delhi. I have Nikah Nama but if Marriage Certificate also required I have to apply for it.

Thanks for your support.
