Hello! We got married a couple weeks ago and it says its taking about ten weeks to register marriages. Then I plan on ordering my marriage certificate online to recieve it within 15 days. Has anyone here gone this route? Is the online delivery the same as the 6 to 8 week regular service? We are anxious to get my application started!

I had my marriage performed at the end of september, it takes up to 10 weeks to register, you can apply online, and check regularly to see if they have registered it. Once its registered you can order it. there are different services, 15 days, 5 days and i think 2 days....

I sent in my record of solemnization, as proof and wrote a letter stating why i don't have marriage certificate and i'll forward it once i receive it.

there is thread called civil marriage or actual marriage just a below. it has a good discussion...hope that is helpful..

I read through that thread and it was useful thank you! By apply online do you mean I can purchase and request the marriage certificate before its registered and then have access to checking my registry status and I will recieve my certificate immediately after? Or maybe thats just wishful thinking!

by applying online i mean is requesting the marriage certificate, once your information is on there database and they have registered your marriage in ontario, it will probably give you option to continue.

I have applied online but my marriage hasn't been registered yet.

go to serviceontario.ca and you can also call them up, they have a toronto number aswell

Make sure you do apply online as that's the fastest way to get it.

I waited 10 weeks to apply, but on the actual certificate it says it was registered after 4 weeks or so, if I remember correctly.

*bringing up an old thread of mine again, sorry.*

Hopefully it can help others after myself ;-)

I'm about to apply for my marriage certificate. Is it best to get:
a. Marriage Certificate (File Size)
This document includes basic information, such as name, date and place of marriage.
The fee for a marriage certificate is $15.00.

or

b. Certified Copy of Marriage Registration (Long Form)
This document contains all registered information, including signatures.
It is a certified copy of the original marriage registration.
The fee for a certified copy is $22.00.

Not CERTAIN but I'm guessing the certified copy. You should have one for your records anyhow, you'll use it in the future. And you only need to send a photocopy with your application.

Cheers,

That's what I was guessing, but then again the top one says "Marriage CERTIFICATE" just plain and simple. Ah well, as always, just getting some good feedback.

Since I'm apparently adamant about purchasing this thing tonight, I will go with your advice ;-)

Thanks TLH!

P.S... I might send the application out sooner minus the Permanent Resident fee. I will be able to send it out a month sooner (though it may cause a month delay) but you know. The whole "out of my hands" thing might be nice. Oh, and I'm not planning on moving until August 2010 anyway, heh. So really it's just that piece of mind I need.

Yay, get it sooner! It'll be behind you then and you'll feel better - a piece of some peace of mind ;) as you say.

In our case the applicant did pay the fees, he just used a visa card and did it online (though he probably used my name and DOB, etc.), we had no problems.

Since the bit of the approval process you are most stressed about is your hubby's sponsorship approval, you could wait for that anyhow before paying the second fee, that seems sensible anyways. I don't think you need to wait for them to ask you to pay the second bit, just do it a month later (or whatever, when it suits you) and send it in when you can, like we did with our marriage cert. I guess they dislike having the file arrive in drips and drabs... but oh well.

August will come quickly, you'll see!

Cheers,
TLH

Thanks TLH! Besides, I haven't exactly been comfortable with the idea of bussing to the Canadian border with an immigration application box in my bag. This way, I'll just get it all done... send the package myself... less stress on my husband! He isn't exactly Captain Organization or anything. And everything else will be in. I still have to wait until mid-January for the photos and medical exam, but that's really not too bad!

Well, that being said, it's 4:30AM here and I've done enough immigration things tonight... Thanks! :-D

I got the file size one and my application went through and was approved without any issues.
