Hello,

I am a US citizen who married my Canadian spouse in South Korea. I have requested a certified translation through the following vendor (https://immitranslate.com/ircc-translations).

They have an option for the translation to be sent as a hard copy by post, or simply as a PDF to my email. Obviously, the PDF to my email would be quicker and cheaper. But would CIC find this acceptable? It's not clear from reading the requirements on their website whether this would be acceptable.

Thank you for any insight.

I’m pretty sure you need original copies when it’s a marriage certificate. I’m Canadian and my husband is Korean and we did the original copy, certifiably translated. But we didn’t try the photocopy so I’m not sure. If you have a certificate from Canada or the States though then the photocopy of the korean one would be enough I think.

If they can mail it priority mail or something for it to only take a couple weeks, then I think it’s worth it to wait. Mail to Korea from Toronto is back to pretty much normal now in our experience.

I only have what was given to us at the Jongno-gu office in Seoul. It is something different than what they give to foreigners who marry Korean citizens. Anyway, I ended up sending the original document to a translator in Korea who took care of it. Thanks for your insights!
