Upon updating my marital status with CRA online, do I also need to change my last name? 'cause when I updated the status online I only change the SINGLE to MARRIED but my last name is still showing my maiden name...
If you didn't legally change your last name, you do not have to change your last name to your husband's last name at CRA.
You have a choice! However, if you choose to take your husband's last name. Look into information provided in your province and see what steps you need to take to take his last name.

What do you mean by "legally change"? 'cause as we speak my PR card is still single in status since i'm using my maiden name. I am concerned with the issue that by the time i submit my spousal sponsorship I have to prove that I am truly acknowledging my husband and to show this I should be using his last name and must be showing in all supporting papers that we are going to submit to the immigration...

I don't see changing your last name to your husband's a good proof of relationship.

Your marriage certificate, CRA status (married and in your next tax return put your husband's name in the spouse name section if it hasn't been done), joint bank accounts, insurance beneficent, letters from friends and families, photos, social media....etc are listed as documents to proof your relationship.

i see... ok i got what you meant... so retaining my maiden name on my cra profile is fine as long as i updated my marital status to MARRIED. Thank you!
