I texted CBC news on Facebook and even emailed it to them but I did not get any response from them. If you guys do the same, we might get any positive feedback. People do not understand our situation until we raised our voices.
The CBC isn't going to go after the government, they are the government's mouthpiece.

Fantastic news. Today I emailed the immigration minister, and the Conservative shadow minister on immigration. Keep up the pressure.

The statement from the IRCC spokesperson is just pathetic:

Beatrice Fenelon, a spokesperson for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, said the pandemic has had a “significant impact” on the department’s operations and ability to process applications, including spousal-sponsorship applications.

“Some IRCC offices are slowly opening up, and we anticipate some overseas offices to gradually open in the coming weeks and months. Some offices will partially open and will be limited to essential services; however, we continue to process permanent resident applications where capacity allows,” she said.

Ms. Fenelon said no application in process will be closed or refused because it is lacking a necessary document or missing a deadline, because of COVID-19.

This is no excuse. The eastern part of Nova Scotia where Sydney NS is has had a total of 54 cases since testing began in March. All of Nova Scotia has had only 100 cases since May 1. And they're still 'slowly re-opening'? What have they been doing the last 3-4 months?

Next, the parts that are re-opening will be limited to 'essential services'. What does IRCC do that isn't essential?

Finally, we are given great comfort with the last statement: we won't have our applications refused because something is missing. You won't even open my application!

Hey everyone,
Received an email from my MP:
"I spoke to an IRCC officer about your application and they gave me the following information:
The case processing centre Ottawa office is currently reviewing the application and documents submitted to determine if you and your family members meet the eligibility requirements under the class for which you have applied.
Please note that COVID-19 has had an impact on operations and their ability to respond to and process applications. At this time, IRCC is unable to provide processing for applications.
Currently IRCC is focusing on what they have deemed as priority applications such as Canadians attempting to return to the country, vulnerable populations, and people who perform or support essential services, trying to process those as quickly as possible.
More information regarding the changes to IRCC processing times can be found at the following links:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/check-processing-times.html
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/general-measures.html

Since they didn't provide any application number, I guess, this is not very helpful. Not sure if IRCC just formally replied to the MP or they are really looking into my documents. Application was received on March 30 according to the post tracking number

Am I missing something.. why would Canadians need help getting home? Or are they talking about the people registered with global affairs?

People stranded without passports, or who can't make flights etc. However, I thought they were largely finished bringing people home.

How come your application is in CPC Ottawa if it's supposed to be delivered and get done with (initially) at the CIO Sydney?

Have you been able to link your application online? If not, Wouldn't it just be impossible that your file has already been transferred to Ottawa without notification?
The only possible explanation might be the workload redistribution to various visa offices throughout Canada to speed up the processing. If it's the case, it doesn't seem to work that much

You can just find your local MP and contact his/her office. Tell that your sponsorship application is stuck and ask to look into it. You'll probably get a generic response, especially now when their is one explanation for all possible delays

That’s my hope too (that they’ve been working this whole time just didn’t bother notifying any applicants). But again, don’t want to sound too optimistic!
