Please read experience with Canada Post on http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/xpresspost-t273844.0.html. I sent mine thru Purolator and packet was delivered the next day.

Some people have had bad experiences with Canada Post. I sent my application via Express Saver with UPS and was guaranteed next day delivery and was in fact cheaper than the price Canada Post quoted for 2-3 day guarantee.

To have some peace of mind don't you ever use Canada post. It's a piece of crap.
Use some private courier.

How much can I expect to pay if I use a private courier? I know the cost may vary for each person but having a idea would help.

Depends really on the size of your application and weight? could be $30, $35, $40 etc for the speed. Do use a courier like DHL, purolator, UPS etc, they have a good tracking record of their shipments.

I sent my application within Canada, I was quoted for $22+ tax for the Express Saver service, and it ended up being $33 after tax and optional services (Signature + Insurance)
