yes, i landed aug 29 and still have not seen mine. when i called the syndey call center, i was informed it was mailed out. never received it, so it's assumed it's lost in the mail. so, the first step is to call the syndey call center, and confirm whether it's been mailed. the next step after that is sending a solemn declaration to get a new one. i have yet to follow up on what the status is with that...

Whoa you dont have your PR card and you landed August 29 2014!! Holy crap!
Don't you need that for stuff? like getting a job doesnt your employer want to see it? Yikes.

yep, it seems to be lost in the mail. unfortunately the city did a huge sewer construction project on my street when i was expecting it, and i'm pretty sure Canada Post decided not to deliver our mail for a few weeks since it was impossible to drive on our street for MONTHS. Seriously, it was a nightmare and we even called the cops on the construction crews regularly because they would harass my husband and prevent us from entering/exiting our driveway.

nope, i don't need it really...yet. the COPR (landing paper) is all that's needed to get healthcare, SIN, settlement services, and anything else really. Employers don't ask for proof of status when starting work. all they need is your SIN#.

the PR card is really for those who are NOT visa exempt who plan to travel to and from canada. Since i am visa exempt, all i need to get on a plane to canada is my passport and my COPR will prove my status with immigration (and technically so would my passport). I usually drive across the border, so again, the PR card has yet to be needed. Trust me, if it was essential, i would be harassing CIC for it daily!

The only set back for us not having the physical PR card is with the BC Medical Services card. They won't issue it (take photo) until she has the PR card in hand..., no big deal with not having the Healthcard, in that we applied, have the account number, and are paying the premiums, all with just the COPR - (funny rule that they will initiate the actual MSP with COPR and passport as proof, but not the card)

Still it would be nice to have some Canadian photo ID in hand after all this time

can she get a driver's license? in ontario, there wasn't even a need to use the COPR for it.

how about a "resident" id? i believe in ontario, you can get an id that is similar to a driver's license. it just isn't a driver's license, it is an id card.

Maybe so - I'll check into it. Thanks :)

np... it's so interesting how different each province works, because in Ontario (at least in ottawa) the OHIP card is not a valid form of id for most things. places won't take it as a photo id.

That is because it is not legal for someone to ask to see an OHIP card for ID, however if the card holder wishes to use it for ID and offers it up for viewing for that reason it can be accepted.

Its not permitted to copy the information from the card. That is the most likely reason for non acceptance, however for just proof as to your identity it can be used.
