Many foreign nationals exempt from medical exam

Hi all,
I just read in the CIC newsletter where they have made a public policy that allows most foreign nationals that are here in Canada and awaiting Permanent residency exempt from having to having undergo the medical exam. The policy will be in place till December 2021.

Don't think it says most. Yes many will be exempt if they are young, have had recent medical and have no major medical issue. If in Canada most will be using the Canadian healthcare system so any use for a serious and expensive medical condition can be easily determined without a medical exam. If they have been in Canada their chances of having a communicable disease like TB are much lower.

What's your question about the policy? Who qualifies is pretty clearly articulated:

The temporary public policy is in effect until December 28, 2021, and applies to in-Canada foreign nationals who

• have submitted a new application for permanent residence or for a permanent resident visa or have a pending application for permanent residence and have not yet completed a new immigration medical exam
• have completed an immigration medical exam within the last 5 years and were found to pose no risk to public health or safety, or complied with a requirement to report to public health authorities for monitoring, and
• have not left Canada for more than 6 months in the last year to live in a country that has a higher incidence of a serious communicable disease than Canada, as outlined in the list of countries requiring an immigration medical exam
