Does anyone notice that: Skilled Worker Overseas Stream(SWO), the main project of Manitoba immigrants, for someone who closes relative in Manitoba, has paused after July 2019?
There is no explanation on the official website, nor does it say that the project has been stopped, but it has not been made for a long time.
Is there anyone who pays attention to this project?

You are correct there has been no overseas nomination by the mpnp since last July, unless you have applied through a strategic innitiative
I had imagined it had been delayed due to a high workload or perhaps they are meeting their quotas through internal applicants.
Either way with the current Coronavirus situation I doubt they will be resuming the program anytime soon.

Thanks for your reply.
I drew a chart that shows that Manitoba's demand for talent is declining in terms of trend, which is not in line with the overall immigration plan.
SWO is one of the most important ways to recruit immigrants, and there are strange reasons for pausing the program.

Hopefully the program will come back soon.

Have you thought that maybe the province has just put a pause on the program, or reevaluating it ? If people were using it as a spring board into the country , then moving to another province , they’ll look at it

Given that we are in a recession the need for immigrants will decline as unemployment rates increase in Canada. As already said the retention rate through MPNP is also pretty low with many not remaining in MB.

If they are worried about this problem(using it as a springboard into the country, then moving to another province), then the SWO program through family and friends is the best one to keep new immigrants in Manitoba.

If the economy continues to going down, recruiting new immigrants may be one of the most effective ways to improve the economy.

I think they still conduct draws for skilled workers overseas. The cutoff has just been high.

I just want to say that some immigrants who I know are quite rich, and their spending power may be helpful to economic recovery.
Spending power only contributes sales taxes not income/business tax. Also has contributed to unaffordable housing prices. So no wealthy immigrants will not help the economy much and there isn’t any differentiation between wealthy and not wealthy immigrants in most of the economic immigration scheme.

When they landed, they need to buy furniture, daily necessities and cars, all of which will help the economy recover.
Of course, the house price is on the other hand. But the vitality of real estate will also help a series of surrounding industries, such as construction, home appliances, materials and so on. Maybe that's why Canada needs millions of immigrants per year.
Just a discussion, no offence.

Most new immigrants do not land and buy all this stuff. The majority only buy what they need to survive until finding secure employment. They also take public transportation or get a cheap secondhand car if public transportation is an option. Canada doesn’t accept millions of immigrants every year. Yes the contraction industry is highly problematic and has become an industry too big to fail which is one of the reasons why nobody wants to do anything to real estate to decrease prices. Moreand more people started working in construction as real estate prices increased. Lots of people have most of their longterm savings wrapped up in real estate. The big issue is if young people can’t afford to buy all the homes that baby boomers will eventually sell.

Immigration is always about demand and supply. If there is high unemployment there won’t be demand for extra workers. If you have highly specialized skills that is different. Immigration is not going to increase during a recession. Canada needs to get people who are already in Canada back into work first..
