I just heard from Shaw Cable that calls to the Philippines are free until Nov 14th. The Filipino Channels are also free. Time to Avail!

Hmmm i noticed in that link it says

One (1) valid identification card with photograph (eg., SSS ID, GSIS E-card, PRC ID, driver's license, postal ID, ARC, etc.)

She will only have her passport (which it mentions on a different line). She also has an old nbi printout with her picture on it but i don't think that's really a valid id (she can't use it at western union to pick up). Any idea if this might cause a problem?

It would be a good idea in general for her to order another birth certificate from NSO to bring to Canada with her.

Is there enough time left there for a government ID card? She will be in Canada for a few months without any ID which will be tough while she waits for a PR card. She won't be able to buy any lotto or liquor for example, or even open a bank account.

Med expires on December 3rd so they said we need to fly out before then so unfortunately i don't think so. Lack of id is a problem but with all of her stuff at CIC we haven't been able to secure any additional id's. I did email CIC to ask if we could get the NBI and use it as ID at the seminar but I have my doubts with that.

I think they will return her birth certificate, if you can wait until she has the visa and then take the seminar in Manila it would save you a trip back for the stamp anyways. Unless.. did she take the seminar when she changed her name on her passport?

Yah we are going to wait until she gets the visa and then take the seminar, but they are asking for valid photo id so i don't think the certificate will work. They ask for the passport on a separate line so i think you need valid photo id in addition to the passport.

All this and we might get hung up by photo id for the seminar........the stress ohhhh the stress.

Why don't you call them and ask? If you are on Shaw it's free until the 14th anyways.. hee hee

At last resort we all worked out a while back that a spouse could fly to Hong Kong as a 'tourist' and Canada from there, it would skip the whole need for the certificate and sticker.

Oh really as a tourist that's interesting.

Yah I'll try call tomorrow, I've already sent an email to the embassy asking if we could get the NBI when we pickup the visa and i emailed the people that put on the seminar to see if the NBI photocopy will be enough if we can't get the original. Thanks for all the help.

Well there's no restrictions for her to fly to Hong Kong as she doesn't need a Visa. You could book a ticket on Cebu Pacific and then a separate ticket from Hong Kong to Canada. Hong Kong wouldn't ask for a CFO sticker. I guess the only potential pitfall is that the HK ticket wouldn't be round trip, causing potential questions. Still, the point is that it's a possible work-around. I'm not a huge fan of CFO.

Theres a good possibility that a round trip ticket HKG would be cheaper anyhow than a one-way...worth checking

Does she have a phil health card? My wife used that
