I hope they are aware of their rights. I have been following the cases in BC of the caregivers who were working 16 hour days and getting paid for 8 and they would be locked inside the house. A friend of mine here was a Nanny for a rich guy who gave her a job at his business that he didn't pay her for. So she would make $10/hour looking after his kids 30 hours a week and then worked for free at his business another 30 hours a week. The guy was a total prick.

I'm not sure just what that seminar would include. Once they are here they are at the mercy of the employer. There should be an advocate for the programme that physically gets in touch with caregivers on a monthly basis to make sure they aren't being abused in anyway.

A seminar to tell them there rights, what to be aware of ... etc... Tell them things like this that will make te aware, ad where to go in case they need help

I sure hope so. One place I will show my wife when she gets here is where the philippine embassy is. I guess that is one of the benefits of being in Ottawa.

Absolutely a great idea. There is no Embassy office here in Winnipeg though with the growing Filipino population here there should be. I was just going to show my wife all the closest emergency services, City Hall and the Filipino Community Centre.

Well no worse than my wife's welcome to "Hockey Night in Canada", her first experience with a hockey game was being here for the Stanley Cup Riot,
