It seem the timeline for CEM process is significantly changed compare to what it used to be couple of year ago (e.g. in 2011). It only took a month to get passport request from CEM then but now it will take about 6 months. After then it will still take extra several months to get passport back (hopefully with visa). What a wait game!
6 months for PPR is a little optimistic. At this time most are receiving PPR at 9 or 10 months. But we never know , maybe the waiting times will be lower from now on.
Hoping it comes true.

I don't quite understand why the thing changed so dramatically only in couple of years, even after those things (such excuse as strike, typhon and other visa offices closed) happened during this time, the total processing time is not prolonged 8 or 9 months longer than what it used to be in 2011. So why the PPR time is 8 or 9 months late?

Total processing times has gotten longer by at least 4 or 5 months.
Only thing CIC needs passport for is VISA.I think that's why PPR comes later now, so they don't have to hold for so long. Although some still have passports held for a long time still.
2 big reasons for change in process recently, I believe is Strike ( just imagine how many apps monthly go to CEM, then take 4 or 5 months of processing time out) has to be a huge backlog.
2: Closing other VO's, would be different if CIC added more staff but I highly doubt it. Now the work that 3 VO's did is all done in 1.
But it's all speculation, no way for an outsider to know what goes on behind closed doors.
Also has been no update on processing times at VO, I'm a little worried times might be extended longer.
We have no choice, their rules.

It makes sense that PPR indicates the last step of the process, and it shouldn't take 3 to 4 months just putting a visa stamp in the passport. However, the spread sheet on the website "trackitt" indicate that almost all of cases (most of them were filed before 2011) got PPR a month or so after SA in that period of time. Most of them got approved of course but some of the cases were rejected after PPR although it seems rediculous - why they ask for passport if there is no guarranty of a visa. Reasonably I think if the total processing time takes 4 or 5 months longer, we should get PPR 5-6 months after SA, comparing the general processing time couple of years ago.

Many things should not be the way they are. Reality is that's what happens now.
My brother went through this same process in Oct. 2011, his total time was 9 months.
I'm at 6 months now, by watching earlier threads I don't expect much for another 3 or 4 months.

Hi, my application is not from December, its from February and will get the initial review by mid March,
and we will go from there. My wife is from Philippines and hope that we can have her soon.
But with that many applications we can just wait and hope that everything is OK and no requirement
is missing, because that may delay things.
Good luck with your sponsorship.
