I'm Canadian citizen and I wanted to take my Dominican boyfriend of over 1 year back to Canada to live. I've been to the D.R 3 times now and I've been here for 3 months this time so I guess you can say I'm living here. I miss my family and my home and I'm dying to go back but not without him.
We've tried to get a TRV twice now and have been rejected (The second rejection was earlier today). We were going to go to Canada get married and apply for sponsorship there, but obviously that's out of the question.
If we get married in like 2 weeks, will it be too suspicious for the immigration officers? We have chats, pictures, phone bills, birthday cards, and letters to prove that we've been together genuinely for a year.
I have no job obviously because I'm living were I don't have residency or a work visa, I have something called "permission to stay" but it's not a visa. But I have had jobs when I was living in Canada and I quit one before I came here. What proof could I provide? What if I put I was planning on looking for a job when I get home? What if my mom wrote a letter saying we will be living with her and she will support us?
Also, I applied to a program at a college in Nova Scotia but it's for 2011 and they won't review applications till November 2010, could I give CIC something from the school that says I applied?
I'm in need of help, being rejected twice has got me pretty negative about things, I hate living here but I don't want to leave this country again without my man.

Hi,

I totally understand your frustration, zabrinaw. See, that was our original plan, too! My Canadian fiancee and I were suppose to get married in Canada. I'm sure other people planned this too but got their plans crushed after getting refused for a TRV. Are you getting married to sponsor him for Permanent Residence? My suggestion is just apply to sponsor him outland. That's our plan now. I checked the CIC website but it doesn't say how long the processing time for Santo Domingo is but it usually takes about 6 months to process. Maybe other members on this forum can confirm this? If you do decide to go this route, good thing is that you don't have to have a job to sponsor your husband. A letter of support from your mother will be very helpful as well.

Good Luck and keep your spirit up!

Thanks for the reply!

We decided that we will get married here and send our application. Hopefully I won't have any troubles with me being a sponsor or with his PR.
