Hello! Thanks for visiting this!

My husband and I submitted our application this 5th of May, and just days after, we received the FBI Clearance (Doh! It came so much earlier than expected!).

We've been holding onto it, hoping to receive some kind of confirmation letter or ID number from CIC to mail with the FBI Clearance to identify it. However, the FBI Clearance is already a month old and I want to get it out as soon as possible! I don't want to risk too much time.

So, my question is - Is it safe to mail the FBI Clearance to them now, anyway? As long as I attach all of our information (application receipt number, passport numbers, names, addresses), would this be enough?

I just want to know if there is an appropriate procedure to mailing it, or just toss it in an envelope and go, "Toodles!"

My worry would be that it wouldn't find it's way to the application or that it would get misplaced, since they haven't started processing our application yet.

Thanks so much for reading this, and any advice you may have to offer us! :) <3

Your recipt number will insure it gets to the right app.So put your recipt number on it put it in an envelope and then say toodles

How long did it take to get the response from the FBI?

iarblue, thank you very much for your reply! :)

Kess, it took just a little over 7 weeks, as opposed to the advertised 13 weeks.

I just called the Canadian Immigration Call Centre and they said that you shouldn't mail the FBI check after your applicaion.

I am in the same position: I am waiting to mail my application to Mississauga, but I'm just waiting on the FBI record - for about five weeks now.

Did your application get returned to you because you mailed it without the FBI check?

Thanks!

I am in the same situation, does that mean that the app from the Local Offie will get returned,OR will they ask for additional documents later ...which will be FBI Document?

I emailed Buffalo to see how I should reference the FBI cert since I dont have a reference # other than the receipt and their reply was this:

"Please wait until you hear from us with further instructions and do not contact our office or send in any further documentation during that period."

So I will be waiting to hear from them before mailing anything. I hesitate to send it to Mississauga since they have had my app for almost a month and I dont want it to get lost. :(

Hello! Thanks everyone for your replies and experiences with this. <3

To answer some questions, I don't believe our applications will be returned for not including FBI, but the FBI will be requested (with a deadline). Before I started my application, I briefly spoke to an immigration officer at the Canadian border, as well as a settlement worker in Kingston, and explained my situation about my having to mail the application before FBI, and both explained that CIC understands that FBI takes a while. It's just recommended to mail everything together to be faster and easier.

We mailed our application early because NJ State Clearance was getting too old (and I don't want to do ANY more fingerprints!), and now we're just trying to make sure that when we mail the FBI it has the best possible means of finding it's way to homebase.

Thanks for that, heatherusa! I will continue to look into this some more.. Hard to have something so vital to the application sitting behind me on a shelf. But because it's so important, I must do it right.. <3

(PS for lol's: The officer and the settlement worker both candidly joked how applications are sprawled over desks, stored in piles, and handled by separate officers. Laugh or cry? Haha.)

Any more tips and experiences with safely delivering FBI's after mailing applications are appreciated. Thanks, everyone. <3

I really appraciate this information about FBI letter. Thank you for sharing what you learned. My file started processing May 24th in Buffalo and I am still waiting for FBI letter. I will wait till they request it before I mail it out. Now this question doesnt have to dance around in my head for weeks ;D

Hello everyone,

For those of you that are mailing the FBI clearence AFTER the rest of your application: You mailed your application to Mississauga and then it reached Buffalo without being sent back as incomplete?

When I spoke to the CIC Customer Service on the phone they said that you shouldn't do that, so I just want to make sure before I send it off.

Has anyone actually had their application fully processed having sent the FBI clearence form late?

Thanks for your help!

I want to know that too..I asked the question similar to this one and no one has responded yet :(

I was told by an immigration lawyer that it is okay to mail without FBI. Just wait for the file number from the out-of-ountry visa office (if you are applying that way) so that they know how to match it up. It will come on the first correspondence you receive from that office. Good luck!

Good to know! If FBI rejects my prints then I will have to send the application without it. My money order was cashed today so I expect to get something from them soon. Thanks

when i received my first letter saying my file was created, they sent me several stickers with my file number on them and told me to use them for any corrispondance. I just got my fbi letter and I believe I will send it registered with the sticker on the outside. That seems to be what the stickers are for. I was going to wait until it was requested, but I really believe I can send it with the number and registered. I will let you know how it went.... ::)

So according to your previous post, the sponsorship was approved and the application was also sent to Buffalo without FBI?

Its good to know that they send you some stickers w/ the ID number.
