I just recieved an email from CPC-Ottawa basically telling me that I got COPR but in order to send me the letter I need to provide them with a mailing adress in North America.
I am super excited about the COPR BUT i just don't get it: I applied from outside Canada (I am Austrian) but they send my application to Ottawa. I know that Ottawa usually processes applications from within Canada or the US. But I am Austrian so why can`t they send the letter to Austria where I live right now? And if they send it to a canadian adresse how will my 'landing' work? I am visa exempt but still,do I have to go back to the airport to land?

Ottawa has been processing "non-complicated" files from european countries, and they also have been processing the COPR for applicants currently in canada, so this is not out of the norm.

if you are currently not in Canada, then you need to send a case specific enquiry to your visa office and the office that sent the letter, so they will send it to you where you are currently living. there must be some reason they assume you are currently in Canada?

If they still won't send it abroad, and you can easily get to canada, have them send it to your sponsor. you wouldn't be able to land at the airport, but what you can do is drive to the US border and do what's called "flagpoling". it's very common and easy to do.

if driving to the border is not an option, and they won't send it to where you currently live, then get the sponsor's MP (member of parliament) involved. the document should be sent where it's convenient for the applicant needing to land.

Well I have no idea why they would think I live in Canada or the US. I applied from outside canada and I live with my sponsor in Austria. We even had to send more proof about our/my sponsors intent to move to canada.....
I could send it to my sponsor's family, but don't I have to sign anything?? If not that would be great, because then his family could send it to me and I could immigrate in a couple of month at the airport as planned.
But is it normal that CPC-Ottawa wants to have a Canadian or US adress to send the COPR?

again, i would send a case specific enquiry to the visa office then, since you are not currently residing in canada. generally, Ottawa sends the COPR in regular mail. if there's a signature required, it doesn't necessarily have to be signed by you.

Sorry for the stupid question, but what exactly do you mean by 'case specific enquiry'?

it's a way to contact CIC about your case specifically. i believe instructions for this in on the website, or I would recommend emailing the office that is listed on any communication received. or another option is to respond to the email requesting the address and letting them knwo you are not currently in north america, and ask them how to get it sent to you directly.
