Mailing Address in the United States?

Dear All,

I applied for citizenship during summer and I have not heard back from CIC till now. I have recently moved to the US for a temporary period and have no mailing address in Canada anymore. Can I contact the Sydney office and ask them to update my mailing address to the one in the US? I have heard that they don't mail anything related to citizenship application overseas. Is this correct? I don't know how to contact them as well because I have no file number and CIC does not allow to contact from outside Canada (call center or online form).

Any thought is highly appreciated.

CIC won't send citizenship mail outside of Canada and for this reason won't accept your US address. You'll need to maintain an address in Canada for your citizenship-related correspondence.

You can do what I did and setup a Canadian number with a voip service and call CIC, it works. If you want a recommendation I used Line 2 and setup a Vancouver number.

I'm curious about this, as I will be applying for my sons citizenship once he receives his PR and lands. I'll be applying from the US while we're transitioning to move to Canada.

Then why do they have on their application form the option to provide a foreign mailing address (they ask for the country in the mailing address section)?

Could you please explain more? What exactly is Line 2? Thanks.

If you are looking at this form:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/citizen/CIT0002E.pdf

There is no foreign address mentioned

Let us know what line 2 you are referring

If you look at section 5B, it asks for the country. If the mailing address should be only in Canada, then why do they provide this entry in the mailing address section?

If thats the case, look at 5c, how come they do not ask for country code?

How did you get the voip with Canadian number?

Thanks,

It's pretty easy, the basic details for me in the US was a 7 day free trial, and then $9.95 a month with 5000 mins a month calling back and forth between Canada and the US.

I chose the area I wanted the phone number to be from, they assigned me a number. Then I had to download their app onto my iPhone. It works almost identical to the regular iPhone. You can also put the app on iPads etc. My 5yr old son has it on his iPad and has been making use of it. Why, I don't know when he has the ability to Facetime me. I guess it's the novelty of having a "phone" of his own ;-)

I think you also have the ability to forward the calls to your phone directly for incoming calls. Anyways, when I called CIC the number was recognized as Canadian and I was able to get through to an agent.

This is who I used, hope it helps:

If anyone knows of a similar service that is better or more affordable, I'd love to know.

Also you can call this number from outside Canada:+1-613-944-4000 (Foreign Affairs & Development office).

From this post by EasyRider: https://secure.immigration.ca/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14368&KW=cic+outside+canada+call&PID=211241&title=how-to-call-cic-call-center-from-outside-of-canada#211241

"After language options (1 or 2), it'll provide with agencies selection, I believe route for CIC is then:
1 (Foreign Affairs inquires) and then 2 (information about immigration and visas).

You'll be transferred to CIC like if you were calling +1888 number. I used this number to call CIC from Skype, and Skype is not routed through Canadian area number."

I did that and it didn't work for me, except I didn't use Skype. I even had Service Canada transfer me. As soon as I was transferred to CIC it immediately recognized I was calling from outside of Canada and discontinued the call.
