Agreed. But as Leon said, it is unlikely CIC will know unless someone who knows all the details decides to report him.

oh, oops.

Then as Leon asked, why is he worried about this now?

And as for your original question, since his original application had false major information, CIC could potentially revoke his PR status since it was obtained by fraudulent means. If he is a citizen now, I suppose they could revoke that too since his PR was obtained with misrepresentation
This is what makes me so angry at the CIC system being so broken and as a Canadian I am pissed that this person lied and I hope if he does have citizenship they do take it away from him...seriously..We are doing everything the right way and have been going through the PR process with CIC since APR2014 and we are now being asked information from 25 years ago that according to the States Attorneys office and the Court Clerk does not exists any more and this guy forget/lied/didn't bother to tell anyone on his application...I hope CIC does stalk this site

Immigration Fraud is one of the reasons processing times are so long. For every person that gets into Canada or the U.S fraudulently, there is recourse for all the others that do it the right way. IE. long processing times, ridculious document requests etc.

I don't understand the logic of why the person would fail to disclose everything since there would be no impact on the application. Perhaps the real fraud that took place is the person hiding to his current wife that he was married before at the time of the wedding

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/cit/acquisition/revocation.asp

If the person’s citizenship was revoked due to false representation or fraud or knowingly concealing material circumstances during the citizenship process only (e.g., lying about residence in Canada during the relevant period), the person becomes a permanent resident as per subsection 46(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Revocation in such situations does not itself jeopardize the right of the person to remain in Canada; however, the person must meet all obligations under the IRPA. For the residency obligation under the IRPA, the five-year period begins on the date the person becomes a permanent resident. If the person’s citizenship was revoked on the grounds they became a permanent resident by false representation or fraud or knowingly concealed material circumstances, the person will revert to foreign national status. If the false representation or fraud or concealing of material circumstances was with respect to a fact described in sections 34, 35 or 37 of the IRPA, the Federal Court, in certain cases, may also declare the person inadmissible and issue a removal order.

If the person is a dual citizen and the person’s Canadian citizenship was revoked due to convictions for terrorism, high treason, treason, or spying offences, depending on the sentence received, or for serving as a member of an armed force of a country or organized armed group engaged in armed conflict with Canada, the person becomes a foreign national.

If the person, who is a foreign national, is in Canada once citizenship has been revoked, the person is in Canada without status. The person may be reportable under subsection 44(1) of the IRPA and may be subject to removal from Canada.

They would have found out about your husband's criminality easily, so it's not like you had a choice. I guess it depends on what he did as to why they are giving you such a hard time? I assume he wasn't in trouble just for jaywalking.

I don't understand it either but I have come across people who lie without a thought if they think it will help them in some way. I have heard some here say they lied about their job history changing unemployment into something else because they thought it would look bad for them and some beefed up their job experience with fake letters etc. However, when you do this with immigration and get caught, you are in serious trouble.

Not that it's just immigrants. I have the experience of working in a place where a Canadian woman showed up and told the employer she had years of experience. She was hired at a rather high salary but within her probation period, it came out she had nowhere near the skills that she said. After 3 months, she was offered to take a pay cut or leave. She chose to leave. One of her close coworkers, a young man who was just starting to learn the job said that she advised him to go to another employer and tell them he has a few years experience because he could make more money that way.

Actually, this is an example of the system working "well enough". The marriage certificate was in order as far as the provided documentation, so rather than spending more resources examining if ever document is legitimate, CIC accepts the official word of other official agencies. There obviously was not sufficient doubt to investigate further.

The process isn't perfect, but it is relatively effective. The big deterrent is that everything could be taken from you, and living always with the shadow of repercussion.

As for your data that doesn't exist, generally CIC will accept proof of sufficient effort to recover it, depending on the details.

In the latter examples, I can see people doing that because it makes them look like a stronger candidate. People fudging resumes is common.

But in the former example, it makes no difference to CIC. I guess it is an example of people not being informed enough that CIC won't care at all. That... and also a lack of honesty in general.

Yup, If CIC can't trust official documentation issued from a Canadian agency, then who can they trust?

Oh boy, should he also get a death sentence for not disclosing his previous marriage(for whatever reason), which was actually legally divorced as he stated?

I think you are overreacting a little bit here, you can't compare his case to an actual criminal charge that CIC wants to investigate (does not matter how long ago it was).

Nobody is proposing that he gets the death sentence but he did commit misrepresentation and could possibly lose his PR if it comes out. Now, this was a completely pointless lie too. It would not have mattered at all for his PR if he had admitted that he was married previously and since divorced.

However, sometimes people can lose their PR over meaningless lies like this if they get caught.

Over reacting?...really....our file sat for 9 months and no one touched it, as per the case notes, I wonder how many cases were worked on that people did not disclose info?..cases with people trying to get away with something...my mother has Alzheimers's and my daughter is going to have my first grandchild in January...by the time we get to the interview in Nov CIC will have had our application for 19 months..again we had an approved TRP/Rehab that has taken 3 years to get and sent in the PR with still a year and half left on the TRP and you think I am over reacting ..not in the least I have no use for people for lie here or anywhere life and again as a Canadian I am sick of people take advantage of the broken Canadian immigration system...
