Mr.Engineer, you are the Expert but in my opinion I dun think so. Wait till more members could ponder on it.Please also reply to my query regarding the request of new form from LVO,why they ask for it when it is already submitted along with the application.
Thanks

Dear Fellow Members and applicants,

we are also from Pakistan and currently live in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. My husband is main applicant and I held the duty of a consultant and applied by own in March 2011. Our application was accepted in Nova scotia, sydney and then was transferred to LVO. Our timelines are:

Application Sent to Sydney Nova Scotia 29 March, 2011.
Rcvd by NS, Sydney 05 April, 2011.
PER letter from NS, Sydney 06 May, 2011 mentioned our application is eligible to proceed and will be transfered to VO London soon.

RBVO 26 or 27 May, 2011 and since that day till now its 16 months and no news. I sent a CSE 4 times but they have different replies. Pending review by IO, process not started yet, awaiting officer review.....etc, but I have noticed one thing that whenever they reply, at the end of email after regards I always noticed this address:

"LBM
Immigration and Medical Services Division
High Commission of Canada
38 Grosvenor Street
London W1K 4AA, United Kingdom

Government of Canada."

What do u say in this matter? Can Olympics be the reason of delaying cases in London VO? I am going to apply for GCMS today.

Regards.
Saira

Hello Hossein

As with many things in life it comes down to personal circumstances and I think that it is hard to just generalize. Everybody here does have different reasons for making Canada a new home so although some of us here can guide you, you will have to make the call.

I lived in different countries (US, Germany, Austria and UK) and all those do have advantages and disadvantages. Although I liked living in the UK at the beginning, it is at the moment not easily bearable. My personal opinion (others might think differently): UK is overcrowded, narrow, bad roads (I live in the Greater London area), poor and very expensive housing, streets are not clean; there is literally rubbish everywhere (when you move away from the tourist areas). School education is on a very low level (I work a lot with schools and school-age kids). UK does have a quite high criminality rate (as a matter of fact the only time I've got robbed in my life was in the UK). The British mentality is strange (no offence to any Brits here), a 'word of promise' means nothing to them. The economy is bad here (well, might be that way in the rest of the world), I honestly do not feel secure here and I definitely do not want my kids growing up here.

I could go on but it really does not matter. Look at your options. What possibility do you have in Canada and how do those compare to the UK? Will you have a job in Canada once there (you will in the UK since you are mentioning an investor visa)? Do you have family or friends who can help you in Canada or the UK? Fact is, the standard of living is higher in Canada and the cost of living is about 30 per cent lower than in the UK. But those are just statistics, the call is yours. Canada is not a paradise but I know that my life will have a higher quality than in the UK.

And since I am here on this forum, sharing my experience about obtaining an Canadian immigration visa, you already know my decision: Canada.

I hope that this helps a little. Good Luck Hossein!

Miki
Dear Miki,

Thank you for your nice and useful advices.
Your feedback will help me a lot to decide where to go, and where to live.
I am living in Kuwait right now, i am satisfied with my lifestyle, my job is good, i have no problem with my life situation.
The only reason to move from Kuwait is that after 46 years born and living in Kuwait, i am not getting any advantages from the government for my children, actually, i am treated like the new person arrived yesterday to Kuwait.
Therefore, i am looking for my kid's future.
You gave me fantastic advices about what i want to know, as you are aware, i am in visit trip to UK, i have been in London for one week and now in Manchester for almost one week, but the point of view of visitor can not be compare to who'se living in UK.

Do you think it is better to decide that to keep UK as second chance after Canada for move on from Kuwait?

The attractive thing in UK for me and my family was the shopping, since you cannot get such prices in Europe countries, even i found that the food stuff is cheaper than Europe, as i heard that things are slightly expensive in Canada because their market count on US, but still you are saying "the cost of living here in UK is higher than Canada by 30%".
Could you please tell me for how long do you live in UK, and did you get the UK passport or no?

Your feedback will be highly appreciated as i am collecting information for my new life here in UK or for Canada.

Best regards,

Best regards,
Hello Hussein

I know what you mean, I've been in the same situation in my life were everything was fine but I still did have the urge to explore new possibilities for my future. There are people made for migration and yet others can't stand the simple thought of it.

I was born in Austria and I do have an Austrian Passport (citizenship). I never intended to apply for the British citizenship as I did not see any advantages of it. I can settle almost everywhere in Europe I like (with my Austrian Passport) and work without any extra permits or applications. I can also travel most of the world’s countries visa free so a change of citizenship to the British one would not really bring any advantages to me (travel wise at least). I plan, however, once I settle for good in a country (I hope Canada) to apply for the country's citizenship simply so I can participate and influence the political life (e.g. vote, run for political/government office etc.).

I lived in the UK for a bit more than 4 years now (arrived here in 2008), I did have an excellent job offer back then and I like the idea of 'exploring' a new country. As I mentioned before, I also lived in the US (for almost five years) and in Germany (bit more than 3 years). I visit Germany and Austria quite a lot since my family lives there.

It is difficult to compare different countries by the price of things. It is true that some things are cheaper in the UK but others are not. It also depends which countries you are comparing. E.g. electronics are very cheap in the US, not so in Europe, food might be cheaper in the UK but I always have the feeling that it is cheaper in Germany. Petrol (gas) is expensive in Germany, very cheap (compared) in the US. It also depends how much money you will be earning. When you have only $100 and everything costs $1, life is cheap. Once you pay the big $ for everything, a $100 bill will not bring you far. You have to see everything in the right perspective. The taxes are high in the UK but there is no tax on food, in Germany and Austria the taxes are a bit lower but there is tax on food etc. I believe that the UK does not have a very good health system compared to Germany/Austria but has an excellent system when compared to the US. The higher education in the UK is very good (universities) but it also costs money (tuition fees), the school education (as I know it) is utterly rubbish.

When you look at statistic (and they are just that, statistics), Canada does have a higher standard of living. That does not mean that everything is better and cheaper there but all over you will have a (statistically) higher quality of live.

Unfortunately I never have been to Kuwait. Your decision seems to be a difficult one. For me personally, I prefer Canada over UK but just like I said many times, it is my situation and my opinion, your expectations might differ.

Sorry for the long post, I hope that it helps you a bit. Please let me know if you would like to know anything else.

Miki
