luggage dimensions and size???pls help

i have booked the jet airways flight. a friend told me that there are restrictions on the dimensions of the baggage you can take.
he told me that the total of length,breadth and width of checked baggage should not exceed 158cm. i have tried calling the number given on the ticket but it is always busy or not reachable.
anyone please tell is this true??

62 Linear inches should not be exceeded. The measurement is taken by the addition of l+w+h .

what if the dimensions are exceeded? are there any additional charges??

Yes there are are additional charges which will depend on the officer in which counter you will get your bag checked. But a few inches up will not matter as far as I have hard but if it is excessively big you will be charged.

how can i confirm? i have a bag that is about 6 inches over the limit? will if affect??
