My wife just got her visa and ready to come. I heard that new immigrants are allowed up to 3 luggage. Is this true? Because I have not read this anywhere.

That depends on the airline. Different airlines have different rules.

Check the website of the airline to know more.

She'll be coming with Air Canada. I have already visited their website and they have nowhere mentioning allowance for new immigrants. I did however found another piece of information stating that people are allowed a 2nd free luggage. I always knew it was only supposed to be one luggage. Did I read this right? Thanks for your reply

no. of luggages allowed in plane do not depend on whether if you are immigrant or not, all passengers are allowed same luggage.

Air canada or any other international airline allows upto 2 handbags (including 1 handbag + 1 laptop bag), and 1 check-in baggage.

if you have booked ticket already, it is advisable to ask the air line by calling them on their customer support for specific questions.

Seconded.

There is no limit on the amount of luggage you can take with you. Just expect to pay the extra fees for more than one allowable checked in luggage.

You can take 5 luggage with you and you just pay the fees for the 4 extra luggage.

I went to Canada several times from Bangladesh by Emirates, Etihad, Turkish Airlines, Cathay Pacific. They allow two check in luggage each weighing 23 Kg max for all continental flights(in addition to two hand carry 7 Kg-10 kg). Please check with your airlines.

It is 2 checked luggage for flight out of north America. Plus 1 carry on and 1 personal item (so 2 carry on). Those are free. You pay 100 dollars or Euro for each extra luggage up to 50 lbs/23kg ea. And no limit to the numbers.

The 2 pieces of checked luggage aren't necessarily free. Depends on the airline.

Air Canada allows 2 free bags from Beijing to Toronto. Additional bag(s) is/are $225, BUT the additional bag(s) can be oversized AND overweight without further charges.

The major airlines flying in to and out of north America ( from/to Europe ) have 2 free check luggages. That will be Air France Air canada, United, Brussels Airline , Delta. I took them all at least once for the past 3 years every 6 months.

That's not true at all, as the baggage allowance will vary by country.

For example check here for Air Canada: http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/checked.html
Put in an example of say London to Toronto, and you only get first bag free, 2nd bag costs $100.
