Hey guys,

Me and my partner (Canadian Citizen) are applying for common-law sponsorship. As we are both recent graduates and just starting to establish ourselves in the industry, while mostly working freelance, our finances for last year didn't look very good:( My partners 2017 income was 12.000 and mine was 15.500. Will it be a problem for his application as my sponsor?

Thank you!

While there is no minimum income required for spousal sponsorship, IRCC will expect to see evidence that your sponsor is capable of supporting both of you without resorting to welfare. To be honest, you are really at the low end of being able to demonstrate this, even with both your incomes combined. Good luck!

Is there anything we can do at this point?

Can you show some savings at all? Maybe a letter from a family member that says that they will help you if needed..

When we applied I basically had zero income as I was living abroad with my husband and doing volunteer work. We sent in a bank statement from our savings account showing over 10,000$ that we could use. My father also wrote a letter that stated he would help us financially if we needed it. It helps also if you can demonstrate that you have a plan for your life. Print out job searches and applications etc..
