Hello people,

I would like to know about my chances for getting accepted into Msc in Computer Science in Canadian public universities. I would like to point out that my Bachelors CGPA is kinda low. Anyways, here are my details :

Qualification : Bachelors in Communication Engineering (CGPA 2.98 / 4.0)
Work experience : 5+ years in IT field as Android Developer (Currently holding the post of Senior Software Engineer in a very reputed Ed-Tech company in India and was working before for Malaysia's biggest telco as well)
Publications : 2 research articles, one related to Computer Science field (both indexed by IEEE)

Reason for my low CGPA was because I involved myself in a lot of 'non-course' related activities like engineering competitions, hobby projects, worked as research assistance during my undergrad days etc,) which led me to stray further from my main course lol.

I'm currently eyeing the following universities :
- University of British Columbia
- University of Alberta
- University of Calgary

Anyways, please let me know what are my chances :)

actually your GPA looks okay. you mentioned MSc (or MASc in some unis). this refers to a research thesis based programme. admission to programmes like that hinges more on your ability to secure a research supervisor than your GPA, so not all hope is lost.

Sometimes work experience is more important than grades depending on the field. Given your background, you should definitely try and I think you have a decent chance.

No harm in trying. Make sure you emphasize your purpose in SOP, why you want to learn in these universities, emphasize on how you improved yourself in this field by highlighting your efforts in work & life. Take professional help for writing your SOP if you are struggling.
LORs matter, try to get LORs from professors/managers who will vouch for your hard work. Also these universities appreciate a good GRE score, not necessary to take one but it is an added benefit.
