If you are on the internet and have an email then your email is somewhere on a list out there...no matter who you are or how safe you try to be or if you never bought anything online... as soon as you have an email, it is "out there" for people to purchase from lists created by other people/companies for sale.
Also, think about email forwards you have sent to friends...who then forward it on to others with your email showing up on the forward as well!! Most people do not realise they should always delete who sent them the email originally and also use BCC to forward on again. (Hope that makes sense) You have no idea how far or to whom your forwarded email has gone once it is sent or whom is getting that information!!
It is one of the sad truths about the internet that a lot of people do not understand. Unless you have never created an email and have never submitted your information on a web site and only access the internet from a public computer or just never go on the internet period...your info can be found.
