My PR card is destroyed/lost. I am in the process of applying to get it replaced. In the IMM 5444 application form, you need to explain the circumstances in which it got lost/destroyed. There is also another section below this which asks the efforts you have made to locate the document and if applicable, indicate whether police authorities have been notified and attach a copy of the police report.
This is what I think most likely happened. My PR card was inside my passport (I always keep it inside my passport) which went through the washer and drier by accident. Needless to say my passport is a mess but I could not find my PR card thereafter. I am not sure if it got destroyed or I dropped it somewhere after taking my clothes out of the drier.
My question is if I have to file a police report in these circumstances? I have notified CIC about my lost card and I need it reissued as soon as possible. I need to travel outside Canada in December. Can I submit my application without a police report? I don't want to further delay the process as I have everything else completed for the renewal.
Thanks for your input in advance!
