Hello!

I just lost my status as a worker in Canada this week, and because I won't be able to get a work permit (LMO rules changed) I want to restore my status and be a student.

My question is, should I still "restore" my status and pay the student permit fees or what? since my latest visa was a working visa does it make sense to restore it to a student visa?

And where should I apply for my student visa? Inside Canada? or outside? I heard I could restore my visa inside canada (So it takes less time) but I just want to make sure.

Thanks

1. Is your work permit still valid? If it is then, you don't have to restore your status, you just apply for change of status to a study permit.
2. You apply to Vegreville.

My work permit expired on October 7th, then I went to the website through this link to apply online:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/getting-started.asp

I gave all the correct information, I said that my visa was a work visa and that it already expired, then they said:

"Your status has expired within the last 90 days. To restore your status, you must pay $200.
If you do not restore your status, you will no longer be legally allowed to stay in Canada.
Do you want to apply to restore your status?"

I said Yes.

I put all the correct information and in the end it said:

Studying in Canada – Your personal checklist

Based on your answers, you may be eligible to come to Canada as a student.

But somebody told me that I can not restore my status as a student if I was a worker, but the website seems to think otherwise.

Thanks

Do you have a LOA (letter of acceptance) from any school/college/university?

You cannot apply to a study visa/permit without one.

Hi,

My sister has the same scenario like yours.
She was one of the temporary workers that had been affected by the new rules until she get expired with no LMO yet. She did apply for restoration of status and as well change her status from worker to student.
She just did all the application, get a copy of the registration from the college, bank statement, and a letter of support from us..And thanks God because it was just recently granted..
So you can do it if you really can't find any LMO yet within that 90 days;)
God bless;)
