I recently lost my job which was in IT and I did not complete 1 year (I did 363 days ) and my work permit and CSQ are about to expire. I had applied for PR based upon my CSQ but PR application is in progress.
I got my post graduate work permit on 2nd Oct 2017
I had received my CSQ in 2018 Sept which is valid till 25th Sept 2020. After that I had applied for PR under QC skilled worker program on 31st Oct.

Received "Invitation to Pre-arrival services" email on 7th Feb 2020 and nothing since then has happened.
My PR application processing progress is 90% and Estimated completion date is August 31, 2020.

My work permit end on 2nd Oct 2020 and my CSQ ends on 25th Sept 2020...as of now I do not have a job (was working in IT) as well. I am looking for jobs but I dont know how long it might take to get another job due to COVID as hiring are not that good right now..

Can I extend my work permit if I do not have a job (I know I have some time to get another job but just trying to be prepared for anything) ?
Not sure What is the best way for me to stay in QC and be eligible to work if nothing progresses regarding the PR application...what to do please advise.

Thank you @aeya for sharing the link.
I read the information on the provided link, and have a query regarding this :
If a permanent residence application is in process but has not been finalized, a work permit extension is considered on a case-by-case basis through the normal extension process at the case processing centre.
What is considered as "finalized" regarding PR application..?

Your CSQ is valid until you get PR even though it expires. You need work permit only when you can find a job otherwise you only need a visa (apply and the waiting period is considered under implied status for as long as 2 years) to stay in canada legally.

CERB payments($2000 per person) are extended until dec first week. You should not have any problem applying. After december if you still do not have a job you can apply for EI benefits which should cover you for a maximum of 6 more months. If you are married and have a kid you should be getting additional $300 a month per kid until Dec first week. If you have a driver's license you can drive uber and make another 1000$ a month and not more to still be eligible for CERB payments.

I'd say $3300 a month is pretty good until you find a good job.

Good luck and don't lose hope.

OP's work permit ends in approximately 3 months so I guess their main concern is maintaining status with a right to work in this country. Any sort of government aid doesn't help in that.

I don't think $3300 is "preety good".

I pay around $2500 in taxes every month.
Now i know where my tax money is going.
What is your earnings and you pay 2500 every month? It should be around 7500. So i find it much more than pretty good!

Thanks @Lazymon82 for your input. It helps a lot.
I am single but I can do the CERB/EI + Uber
Actually that amount ($3000) is more than what I was earning when I had the job..but money is not my main concern as @Immstu guessed it correctly.

Regarding CERB/EI :-
I had read the conditions for CERB and since I am eligible for EI I dont think I can apply for CERB, as one can only apply for CERB or EI (please do correct me if I am not right).
Also, I am feeling hesitant in applying for EI (or CERB) as I feel that it might have some sort of negative impact on my PR application (they might think he`s already taking money from govt n only wants PR for benefits, free stuff n all )...? (or maybe I am just doing too much of overthinking!)

regarding visa:
I already have work visa which expires on 2nd Oct (same as my work permit).
But I think you are talking about visitor visa..?

Also if my CSQ will be valid till my PR application is in process do I still need visa to stay in QC (I dont plan to move outside QC)

VISA is required until you validate your status as permanent resident providing your PR landing letter at the border(including airports).

I think all EI benefit applications are considered as CERB applications until the DEC 2020 (as far as i know)

Govt aids/uber options are all off when your permit expires i guess. No bridge open workpermit program in quebec so only option you might have is to apply for visitor visa before your permit expires as you wait for PR approval.

Finalized means when you will see ”Decision made” in your permanent resident application.

Sorry but it doesn't work like that. You can receive the CERB for only 6 months or payments even if you see that will ends in December, and you need to have a valid SIN in order to receive the CERB. If your current work permit expires you couldn't get a closed work permit latter, is one of the requirements to apply for a work permit while you wait for your permanent resident application decision.

Yup, i answered that in the comment before yours.

No bridge open workpermit in quebec because the Federal application processing times are unknown even for the officers or policy makers :D
So they couldn't come up with a solution covering waiting periods when work permit expires as the PR processing is going on.

Would plan for any benefits you receive to end when your WP ends. You can only earn up to $1000 in uber and you must register for GST. Working for Uber is like being self-employed. You have worked in Canada before but some are unaware that Uber and taxis are not a cash business like in their home country and end up owing large sums to the government.
