Hi, my actually lives in California with me as she is a Permanent Resident of the US but we've decided to move to Canada. I've asked her dad to contact the local MP in Edmonton. How long does it take to hear back from the MP on average ? Do they have some access to records or information that the average citizen does not ?

When you sent your PP how long left from expiry was it? I only ask because I am a little worried......Mine expires on 31st Jan 13. I was holding off while in process incase they called it forward. My wife convinced me we should renew it so we expressed mailed it to Washington and the very next day I recieved the email from LA requesting PP within 10days! I could not believe my luck and so in a panick I emailed LA stating the whole situation and requested them to contact me ASAP....14days on and still no reply. Fortunately after paying over $300 we managed to get it there in time Roll Eyes
My concern is that, I have just seen a thread stating that you must have at least 12months on your PP for Visa issue?

If this is the case I will have try and renew my work permit before it to runs out end of JAN.

Any ideas?

My passport expires in 2017. But I can tell you that it can be renewed very quickly - for a price. Last time I renewed my passport (2007) I was traveling continuously, so I used a service to renew it. I sent it to them on Monday and I had my new passport back on Wednesday. Last December when I needed a second passport to submit for a business visa, I did the same thing - sent them my US passport and two days later I got back my passport and my second passport. I'm pretty sure the whole thing didn't cost $300 even. I hate not having my passport...

You do not need 12 months on your passport. But your COPR validity will be limited to the lesser of your passport expiration or medical expiration.

If LA has your passport, you'll have your COPR long before your work permit expires. Besides, you have to have a current passport for a work permit anyway (again, they won't issue a WP for longer than the expiration date on your passport.)

Worst case, you can submit a renewal application for your WP up to its expiration (just has to be receive by CIC by the expiration date).

Just checked the tracking of my passport which I sent out yesterday. It was received by LA this morning so I hope they issue the paperwork very soon!

How long did you wait from the time you sent your request to Ottawa?
Back in August I waited 1 months to get a reply from them with general answer.

Well, we sent our application to Missisauga in March. I was then approved to sponsor around June.
We then got delayed in July because of the FBI report we provided (it was from a channeller, not the FBI).
We then submitted a new FBI report in Sept and just now have been approved.

So 7 months end to end.

It'll be interesting to see the turnaround time from PPR to COPR from Ottawa. It felt almost too good to be true to go from randomly emailing them for an update on my file (the first time I had ever done so) to getting a PPR the next morning. Please do report back when you get your COPR, but for now I'm going to assume it's going to be about the 2-3 weeks that everyone else is currently going through with the physical passport.

Woke up this morning to find another email from CIC with PPR. I thought that we'd have to first pay the RPRF first, then wait another few weeks to receive PPR...

But this is awesome because we can submit everything all at once!

We only had 15 days to turn around and send the passport copies, pictures and bio page!!! They received it on the 16th but I should have done what computer geek did sent the stuff to my mother-in-law so we could track it!!

Wow, Ottawa just seems to be processing applications so randomly haha. I'm almost concerned with how efficient things are going...like this is all too good to be true.
