All,

I want to hire nanny for my kids. I advertised last week on couple of websites and interviewed few candidates.
But all are foreign care givers. I learned that there are recently some changes in care giver program. Does that mean if I satisfy all requirements like ability to pay to nanny , then I do not need to get LMIA? Can I directly send job letter to the candidate?

When this new program will be effective?

I will highly appreciate experts response.

Thanks

hello, one of the requirements to apply for home child care provider is to have
completed Canadian post-secondary education credential of at least 1 year or the equivalent from foreign countries, if somebody didn’t finish the last year in the high school in foreign country is that still qualify?

Based on the requirements you have stated - no, they won't qualify. They would have to finish high school - plus one additional year of schooling after high school.

Hello @scylla , @Samira4me, Is there any experience requirement for work permit under new child caregiver program? Do we need to have 1 year or more experience before we apply for the new program?

Not necessarily.. however, you must demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the job duties thus a proof of experience doesn’t hurt.

Nope! They won’t qualify. Must be high school + 1 year college

No need for LMIA for the new program. Just provide a job offer and make sure the nanny is qualified.

Thanks Willow05 for your quick response. If I have to hire foreign nanny , is the processing time 12 months or less.
If it is 12 months then it is too long . Can you provide any info on this.

Unfortunately, the processing for the new caregiver program is 12 months (at least that’s what the website says). Since this program just launched on June 18th, we don’t really have any baseline yet because nobody was granted a work permit yet based on this program as of this writing.
