Better not rent a room, you can live with some very strange people, better pay more but rent a studio (bachelor).

Why are you telling him what to do? Also, not sure if you've been living under a rock, in many cases living by yourself is financially unsustainable (esp. for students or min wage workers).

I think they are suggesting sharing a bedroom not an apartment. Many landlord will not rent to two single people sharing a bedroom although I am sure you can find some. Just make sure you aren’t paying as much as someone renting their own room. Many members of same community take advantage of newcomers and charge a fortune to share a property with 10+ other people. Many allow renting before entry to Canada and arrange pick-up from the airport but don’t be fooled most are exploiting international students and charging a fortune for many students to live in the same property.
