I'm a US citizen waiting on my Open Work Permit through the Inland Family Class and am currently residing in Canada. As such, I still have the ability to hold down a remote job in the US while I wait.

Have any of you US citizens been able to find remote work in the US while you wait? I tried to look online, but there are a lot of scams for remote positions.

I have administrative and customer service experience so something like data entry would probably be a good fit in this case. Any recommendations on legitimate companies you have found hiring for these type of positions? Recommendations?

I believe you can work in Canada after your Inland sponsorship has reached a certain stage

Thank you. Yes, I know. I'm waiting on my OWP that should become available later this fall. In the meantime, I was asking if there any other US citizens who know of work I could do in the US over the internet with reputable companies. There are a lot of scams with online work, so I was looking for some suggestions of good companies.

sign up for UPWork. It used to be ODesk. It is an online platform where admin/customer service/marketing people can bid for jobs for small companies looking for help. It can take a few bids to get a job because you're competing with people from around the world, but there are also companies looking to fill long-term commitments and pay decently rates. This is what I did when I was waiting for PR to process, and it paid enough for some extra cash. there's also an app to make it easier to bid on jobs and message clients.

Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely check into it. That would be wonderful if I could pick up some work in the meantime.

I haven't heard anything about a month. I was told the minimum time for outland is 6-8 months. Inland made more sense for my husband and me because of cost to travel to the interview outside of Canada at the time immigration specifies for outland applications. We also were concerned about getting separated if I couldn't get into Canada at a border crossing on a visit in while we wait. I should also be able to work sooner and get healthcare sooner with the inland process which was important to us. Our immigration consultant advised us to do the inland process and so after considering all of the options, we chose that process. At this point, it doesn't matter much what we could've done because the inland application is now processing, and I should have my open work permit in the fall. :)

Interviews for Americans are very very rare. They usually only happen when serious issues come up such as criminality.

One month isn't really true. Some applicants have gotten through in just under 2 months. Quite a few applicants have gotten in less than 3. You would almost be guaranteed to have your whole application finalized before you would even get the OWP with an inland application.

You also really didn't need a consultant and it sounds like he gave you bad advice.

Look at my timeline. I applied April 6th. Two people who applied the same day as me and one a few days before me already have their Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

I just filled out my UPWork information tonight. When you did it, did you put in a US address since you couldn't work in Canada yet? I didn't see how I could put in my Canadian address alongside the fact that I need to get paid in the US. Thank you.

Yuck. That's unfortunate. I wish I would've known to join this forum before the last week or two when I had questions on my OWP. The consultant was offered free to us through my husband's work. What seemed like help at the time has turned out to be more annoying than helpful. This isn't the only thing he gave us bad advice on it turns out. :( Congratulations on getting your PR!

To be fair, it wasn't until fairly recently that applications have gotten through so fast. Anywhere from 4-8 months used to be normal (and 6-10 before that). February applicants were the first to be processed so fast.

Oh, I haven't gotten my PR yet. For no real reason the sponsorship approval came a few weeks later than the other people who applied around the same day as me who now have their PR. My husband ust received sponsorship approval 5 days ago, so I should be getting the PR application done with soon. I was pointing out that there are applicants through Ottawa (where Americans are processed normally) who applied early April who have their COPR.

yes, i used my us address. it's not used for anything, just for admin purposes on the sight or for bank verification.
